Well I know u can unlock unlockable faction throw the text documant inside the maps folder (Not that I did so..) But did any one tried to put one of the not playbe factions into the playable factions lists???? If not maybe u will need to erase one first and then put it there (make a backup of the text documant before trying) If u do try tell me how it worked out...
You can put Papal States in playable section and it'll work correctly like any other faction. The Mongols and Timurids work but, you need to set the game up a certain way with the Console pull down menu (~) after you add them from what I hear. It has to do with them starting at a later date. I havent tried it yet so I havent done it. I dont think the Aztecs are playable at all but I'm not 100% sure of that.
I have played the Papal States though and its an interesting change. I rather like their units. I consider the Papal States an easy faction to play though. All you need is cities and once you got Pavise Crossbow men (Regulars or militia), Swiss Guards(These guys stop anything from getting through!), and Papal Guards you got an unbeatable core army. Just add some siege weapons and some light cavalry units and you can conquer the world without having to tech up high.
