1.2 bug Just my friggin' luck!
Ok, so I got the leaked patch. The first thing I tried was a custom battle to try out the 2h bug which seemed to have been fixed.
Then, I start a new campaign as the French, I attack Bordeaux within a quarter of the loading screen, the screen goes black when a high pitched chime (the error sound) goes off. I can't see anything except a white cursor.
I turn off the computer manually, I try it again. Same thing.
I then load an English campaign, go to battle almost 100% through the load screen it does it again!
:rifle: :rifle: :rifle: :rifle: :furious3: :furious3: :furious3: :furious3:
Someone please help.

Did you install the patch over a v1.1 patched game? The news as I understand it says you should do a completely fresh install of the game and install the v1.2 patch over 1.0.

Re: 1.2 bug Just my friggin' luck!
Ah, indeed I did. :dizzy2:
So should I uninstall the game and then JUST install 1.2?
-
Re: 1.2 bug Just my friggin' luck!
Ohh man.... I'm sorry I said you could install over 1.1.
I have'nt installed it, like I said many times, so I really should have STFU.
I apologise.

Re: 1.2 bug Just my friggin' luck!

It's ok Sinan, you were still a great help.:2thumbsup:

Re: 1.2 bug Just my friggin' luck!
It's ok Dest. I blame Sinan for a lot of stuff. He just looks guilty!
The best thing you can/should do is completely uninstall the game. If you can do it also, AFTER you've uninstalled, I'd go in and delete the remaining files, because there's probably going to be some residual stuff left over.
Say you installed the game to C:\Medieval II Total War\. Uninstall the game, then after that is done, odds are that directory is going to remain with some stuff in it. Just delete it.
Then, do a fresh install, and install the v1.2 patch over that fresh install. FAIR WARNING! It's going to take you probably an hour or two to install, patch, and then extract all the files using the unpacker (last step optional).

Re: 1.2 bug Just my friggin' luck!
ONE HOUR ? No way !
What the kind of system takes one hour to install M2 ? LMAO !
You sure you guys are not on Commodore 64 or Atari ? :D
-
Re: 1.2 bug Just my friggin' luck!
Oh, and while i'm waiting: How exactly do I access the remaining crap and delete it?

The patch itself took at LEAST 45 min. I'm on a AMD 3800+ with 1gb of heavily OC'd RAM. No slouch to be sure. HDD is a Seagate 7200rpm SATA deal.

Re: 1.2 bug Just my friggin' luck!
Go into "My Computer" Double Left Click click your Default Hard Drive, (usually C:). Then double Left click the folder called "Program Files". After doing that find the folder marked "SEGA". Hit the delete key and say yes when it asks if you really want to delete.
The order to do things in is:
1. Uninstall the game.
2. Delete the folder as detailed above.
3. Re-install M2TW
4. Install the 1.2 unofficial Patch.
Do not delete the excess file before or during Uninstalling/Reinstalling, or after Reinstalling.
Sorry if I seem to be treating you like your an idiot, i'm just making sure the instructions are usable by even the least computer savy individual.

45 minutes to patch, on that system. Wow... :book:
Hey Carl, that's a good way to do it. Point by point. Most of us are'nt THAT smart ! (lol) :D

I think for #1 you mean UN-Install the game.

Oh by no means, friend. Treating me like an idiot is probably the safest thing for all of us.:2thumbsup: :laugh4:

However, that is a little confusing. Assuming the "excess file" are the files I want to delete, then your statement says I shouldn't delete them at all.
No what mean is you HAVE to Uninstall the game BEFORE you delete the files. But you should not do so AFTER or DURING the Reinstall. AT the same time manually deleting the folder whilst the Uninstaller is running will throw up a CTD in all probability.
The time to delete them is AFTER you've run the Uninstaller, but BEFORE you start the Reinstall.

Re: 1.2 bug Just my friggin' luck!
Thing is people who know how always assume everyone else knows how, and that, to those who don't know how is excrutiatingly distressfull, because then the people who know how expect you to know how as well but you don't.
(LOL)

Re: 1.2 bug Just my friggin' luck!
Is it just me or what but I believe that they delayed the patch...FOR A REASON. If you get the leaked one odds are it won't work right and you shouldn't mess with it. Try uninstalling the game and play without it for what, another week, until the real one comes out.
-
Re: 1.2 bug Just my friggin' luck!
Oddly enough it's worked "flawlessly" for me so far, insomuch as I can't find any major failings in it. No CTDs for me.
-
Re: 1.2 bug Just my friggin' luck!
But these kind of "mishaps" can be very informative for some of us "non-computer guru's". I have vanilla M2TW but could not be bothered putting the first patch on it (okay I was nervous about having the computer melt before my eyes when I pushed the wrong button). Now I wont!!! Just wait for the 1.2 version. I was about to install the first patch in anticipation of the new patch (thinking that it would need both) but no so.
Also if it takes an hour to install then I can get 60 minutes of quality time in with the misses before decending into the computer room - never to return.
She will be so happy :laugh4: :inquisitive:

not cool at all!:furious3: :wall:
Still not working.:wall:
At this point I'm just about to say screw it. :(

Re: 1.2 bug Just my friggin' luck!
Carl,
One very important thing to consider with the delete command you are advising; make sure there are no other games installed into that area. ie, if they have MTW and MTW2 both installed into the same SEGA directory, deleting the SEGA directory will mess up the MTW install.
I've had to write too many step by step instructions to not look for ANY WAY someone can mess it up. I'd rather not have someone come and complain to you because they just killed of their entire TW collection including their favorite save games.

Re: 1.2 bug Just my friggin' luck!
I would also recommend running a junk file/registry cleaner (and defragging) before any reinstallation.
As for the crash the OP describes running the unofficial 1.2 patch, I have now seen the same thing a couple of times, but I cannot recreate it. Once was coming out of a battle started by the AI sallying out of a seige, the other time was selecting an agent from the agent menu.
Same thing - screen went black, got the "ding!" for an error, then saw the Medieval cursor on black for a few seconds before going to desktop. I have been able to continue the game, though (Sicily vh/vh), so I don't think there is a fatal corruption. I played a short campaign as England before this with no crashes at all.
I installed the patch over a fresh installation of 1.0.

Re: 1.2 bug Just my friggin' luck!
You could still manually uninstall a game without using a setup and it won't do anything that bad to your computer, but it'll just mess up your registry making you need to run a registry cleaner

Re: 1.2 bug Just my friggin' luck!
Well does anyone have any ideas? If this worked it'd be great and I'd be chasing down cowardly scotts as they flee with cavalry that could actually do something.
I'm currently re-installing the game but won't patch it just yet.
-
Re: 1.2 bug Just my friggin' luck!
Just a thought: Does it have to be COMPLETELY unmodded in any way? If so, I had it modded from 1 turn =2 years to 1 = 1 before I added 1.2. Would that matter?

seeing as Medieval 1 was done by activision i doubt it, but u do have a valid point otherwise :D
edit: oh and seeing as it isnt a officially released patch yet, id suggest that could have somethign to do with your problems, i know alot of people claim that they have it working fine, but y not just wait till its released and u can be sure its workin fine?
