I agree with you.

It was a silly scenario and as such there's no need to take it seriously. There would be grounds for complaints if the soldiers were ordered to fire on chain-smoking and vodka-swilling Russian troops. That's something the Bundeswehr could actually end up doing if the apocalypse comes.

Awesome is not the word that comes to my mind.
