Re: Help>>>>Pope
Well first off you are playing the HRE..... Pope hates you unless you bribe him constantly. If you don't listen to the pope you get excommunicated doesn't do anything big just a little bit more unrest in your cities. Three ways you can fix that are Faction Leader Dying, Pope Dying , or Bribing the hope back into his good graces.
Your post is a little vague so I don't know what else you would like me to say

Re: Help>>>>Pope
There are several tricks that help you get back in the pope's good graces.
1) Give him a province. This can be very useful when you give him the only province thats on your border with someone you are not friendly with.
2) Give him money. Do this regularly. I generally do the whole "Tribute" deal with 200-500 per turn for 3 turns. Works really good. I've got perfect standing with him as the Moors.
3) Don't play with the strategic on VH. VH basically means "Everyone hates everyone" and everyone's standing with everyone else goes down rapidly. That makes it very hard to keep in the Pope's good graces.
Since you are the HRE, the easiest way to get your own Pope elected is to choose one province and have it start turning out priests. Have ALL of them go to foreign lands to do missionary work. I'd suggest first turn one goes east to the Holy land, next one goes west to Africa. That should get you some good priests.

Re: Help>>>>Pope
What I do in all my Catholic Faction campaigns is give the Pope 100 florin each turn. I do this in twenty turn series. Every twenty years I give him a gift of 100 florin a year for twenty years. I wish I could make it longer than twenty years but the LtC mod only allows up to twenty years. If I try to make it longer than twenty the Pope rejects it. Ocassionally I can get him to accept 25 years but that doesnt happen very often.
Anyway, if you do that plus ally with him you wont have much trouble with him. Just stop attacking when he says to and then pick up your attacks again after the specified time.
Playing as HRE at first the Pope may not ally with you. Gift him a little cash first to get your status up a little and then he'll accept an alliance. Do this before attacking any factions though or you'll have a harder time getting the alliance.
Controlling the Pope in this game is quite easy really. Its all a matter of knowing how to do it.

Re: Help>>>>Pope
Ways to rise up the pope-o-meter scale:
1) Control the college of Cardinals
Send some priests to North Africa where there are no Catholics, the increased rate of conversions will increase their chances of becoming Cardinals.
2) Get a diplomat or 2 to Rome
Make regular "donations". Experiment to see just how much moeny will see you go up one notch on the pope-o-meter.
3) Build cathedrals
4) Do what the pope says
Eventually you will control the election of the pope and start with a perfect score on the pope-o-meter, which means that you can behave badly for a while before upsetting the pope.

Re: Help>>>>Pope
killing foreign cardinals is also a good way to free up slots for yours in the cardinal college, you can find them on the map trough the cardinal college screen and hunt them down with your *Name* the Killer guys
