Running

I've heard said that there is a 'run button' on the keyboard in STW.

What is it, and does it basically do exactly the same function as double clicking, or, as I've also heard, does it make your men move faster than a 'marching quickly'.

Ctrl+R is the same as double-clicking, yes. It causes the units to RUN, and will denote them as "Marching Quickly" or "Marching Very Quickly" depending on the units. The double-click or Ctrl+R mechanism is the only way to get the "charge" bonuses some of the more elite units receive.

Extremely important to use it, but be cautious early on, since it tires the units out. Try Ctrl+R on YC in Wedge formation against SA sometime. Pretty earthshattering results.
