To answer it, there are unfortunately very few mods for vanilla MTW -- most mods require that you have VI as well. That said, there is a version of Wes' MedMod available for just MTW, and the MedMod is well-regarded by most people who've played it.
You can find and download it here. Just scroll about two-thirds of the way down the page; the mod you're looking for is listed as Medieval mod IV v1.85 for Total War v1.1. Have fun, and good luck!
