Eleutheroi besieging me??
I had this weird thing where an Eleutheroi army went and besieged my settlement. It contained 1 unit of skirmishers, and they had 2 in the army (and nothing else). I assume this was a bug, as Eleutheroi are meant to be non-aggressive on land, right?
I suppose the armies were balanced in their favour, but I sent a general along who wiped them out.
The file is here.

Who ever said that the eleutheroui are meant to be non-aggressive? Why do you think we ask that you put it on VH for campaign difficulty. At that level of difficulty the eleutheroui will attack your towns (though apparently not spawned armies, only starting armies).

I beg to differ. I've had spawned Eleutheroi stacks besiege my cities. They seem to require a family member leading their stack though. The weaker the garrison and undeveloped your settlement is, the greater the chance the Eleutheroi will besiege it. If you leave a town or even large town with just a wooden palisade and a single depleted Pantadapoi unit as garrison, you're asking to be besieged by the Eleutheroi.
It takes a fairly large Eleutheroi stack for this. Eight units or so. But if it's ripe for the picking they will gladly try it.

Interesting.
I always agreed with the Vanilla philosophy of rebels only wanting to overthrow their previous masters and then sit there, and not try to conquer the world.
Or are Eleutheroi not meant to be rebels?
I had the impression they were just Rebels with Generals.

Hehe! The world back then was not inhabited by rebels. The Eleutheroi are free-men and they represent all the free states that we couldn't include as factions. Lots of kingdoms, city-states, tribes and various other congregations of people existed in this period, it would be awful if they were only represented as annoying rebels. Some of these guys had expansionistic plans of their own, even EB2 won't include all the factions we would like it to.

Re: Eleutheroi besieging me??
Well no non-rebel faction has the ability to magically conjure armies in random places, which is why I thought they were rebels. Plus, they perform the same job: filling in unconquered territories, spawning and annoying people, and being pirates.

Obviously there are some things that the RTW engine does that we have no control over. Ignore the fact that armies have spawned, and either treat them as rebels or as foreign armies from surrounding provinces.

...as well as local bandits, border raiders, unhappy minor potentates and local warlords out to cause trouble, and similar general pains in the rear end.
Re: Eleutheroi besieging me??
Makes EB more interesting those Eleutheroi.
