Problem with Merchants???

Hi

I started a new Campaign this week, and i noticed something was wrong with my merchants. I had a merchant trading sugar at 1700 florins a turn, and a few other merchants trading between 300 to 1500 a turn. When i saved and quitted, and returned to my game a bit later on, all my merchants were earning considerably less, the one trading sugar at 1700 a turn was reduced to 252 a turn, and all the other merchants were earning way less as well. Can anyone tell me why, its driving me nuts :help:
