Best mod ever but Romans not finished
This is is really the best mod of RTW I ever saw. But think Romans are not finished and it really ruining my feeling. :sweatdrop:
I started a Roaman campaign on VH/VH. The game is awsome. All the thing with reforms, new buildings, new units, just great. :2thumbsup: Now is 234 BC I menaged to destroy Carthage and Epiros, while KH and Ponots disapeard. My empire is the largest but I am getting atacked from all sides. Averni from the west, Germans from the north and Macedonians from the east. Only due to my suprime skills in this game I menage to hold my frontiers. ( I have been playing this bleeding game for 3 years now).
But lets get to the point. I was really looking forward to the Polybian reforms and the new units but they are bugged and that ruines my feeling.
Polybian Triari have black helmet bug,
Polybian Hastati have the wrong sprite (the use the Principes sprite),
Polybian Equites have also the wrong sprite.
While the Camilian units where all totaly perfect in every way the Polybian are bugged.
BTW also noticed Macedonian Levy Hoplite have wrong sprites and Steppe riders (mercenary) have no sprites (hores is left unmounted).
So while you guys make next astonishing things with this awsome mod please correct these bugs so the feeling of the best game ever never goes away! :2thumbsup:

Re: Best mod ever but Romans not finished
All known problems. All will be fixed in the fullness of time.

Re: Best mod ever but Romans not finished
Should be in the bugs subforum. We have it for a reason...I think...

Re: Best mod ever but Romans not finished
The new patch (released today) will fix some skin and sprite problems. I forget which, but I think it includes that Polybian Triarii problem.
-
Re: Best mod ever but Romans not finished
EB is still a beta, it obviously still has some bugs. Come one guys, RTW still has bugs in version 1.5.

Re: Best mod ever but Romans not finished

Re: Best mod ever but Romans not finished
I haven't noticed any problems with my Polybian units. And odd that the patch wasn't announced in a new thread at all......

Well, then you are blind or you are playing with unit setting at maximum. :smash:
-
Re: Best mod ever but Romans not finished
well yeah we're playing at maximum.. but that doesnt change the skin...maybe something to do with your video card?

It changes it so that the sprites don't appear, and I think it increases the range where the lower detail .cas appear. Which suggests its a model problem not a skin problem.

well sprites.. for all who don't know it sprites are 2d textures that repalce the 3d models of your units if you zoom out far enough, in order to save hardware power. They are generated from the units texture and 3dmodel by the RTW engine.
Why do Polybian Hastati and Prinzipes have the same Sprite?
One RTW rule is: You can't have two texture slots for one faction on one model unless you make another model entry for it. The entrys are limited to 250.
To save model space EB used a trick to make two units on the same dmb entry available for one faction.
Code:
; Roman infantry - Hastati / Principes (Late)
type roman_infantry_hastati_principes
skeleton fs_pilum, fs_gladius
indiv_range 40
texture seleucid, eb/data/models_unit/textures/ebunit_Prome_new_unit_roman_late_Hastatii_Julii.TGA
texture merc, eb/data/models_unit/textures/ebunit_Prome_new_unit_roman_late_Principes_Julii.TGA
texture slave, eb/data/models_unit/textures/ebunit_Prome_new_unit_roman_late_Hastatii_Julii.TGA
model_flexi_m eb/data/models_unit/ebunit_Prome_new_unit_roman_late_HastatiiPrincipes_high.cas, 15
model_flexi_m eb/data/models_unit/ebunit_Prome_new_unit_roman_late_HastatiiPrincipes_high.cas, 30
model_flexi_m eb/data/models_unit/ebunit_Prome_new_unit_roman_late_HastatiiPrincipes_high.cas, 40
model_flexi eb/data/models_unit/ebunit_Prome_new_unit_roman_late_HastatiiPrincipes_high.cas, max
model_sprite seleucid, 60.0, eb/data/sprites/roman/ebsprite_roman_infantry_hastati_all.spr
model_sprite merc, 60.0, eb/data/sprites/roman/ebsprite_roman_infantry_principes_merc.spr
model_sprite slave, 60.0, eb/data/sprites/roman/ebsprite_roman_infantry_hastati_all.spr
model_tri 400, 0.5f, 0.5f, 0.5f
EB used the merc slot for the other unit (in this case the Principes), if you give that unit selucid (romans) ownership in edu, the game recognices it as roman unit (which makes it possible to add this unit to recruitment for that faction).
Both units have their sprites made and assigned in dmb.
Now the engine makes something that we can't stop:
If you play a battle were both units take part the sprite of the Principes is used by the game for the Hastati, too. The merc slot overwrites somehow the factional slot.
If you play a battle were only the Hastati take part only the game uses the right sprite for it.
The same applys for Hysteroi Pezhetaioi / Agyrsapides, late and early Equites, late and early lybu Phoenician infafntry and several other units which use this trick.
I hope it was understandable :sweatdrop:

Re: Best mod ever but Romans not finished
Damn you are good! If you are Finnish, perkele vittu muna! Damn! Stupid engine! But tell can there something be done about the Polybian Triarii. Did you noticed that black helmet bug? Is that a wrong skeleton? I noticed in the last patch 0.81v2 new cas files for late Triarii but the bug is still there. The instalation asked me to overwrite them but they are still bugged. :wall: :sweatdrop: Please help! :help: :help: Its so anyoing. :wall: :smash:

The Polybian Triarii lod cas and the Karthagian Sacred Band Phalanx lod cas (as far as i know the only units with graphikal errors left) have both been fixed.
This is included in our latest release 0.81 a v.2.

Patience, when there is a fix it will be released.

Re: Best mod ever but Romans not finished
Don't expect anything big. The bug has been noted and will be fixed, but it is a very minor bug. It will be included in the next major EB release, but it won't get its own fix or patch. Only major crashes get quick fixes released right away. "v0.81a v2" was a rare thing (assembled by only a couple people) and was designed to simplify all of the installs and fixes into one thing, and was made to be a long term complete v0.8. Don't expect any patches, fixes, or releases for quite a while.
