I'm a new player to RTW, and all my provinces are happy, I have conquered 15 provinces and defeated the Gauls. I'm playing as the Juli and wish to attack the other roman factions. How does one get this aspect of the game started?

First of all, gongrats.
For your question: You have to gain support from your people.
You can see that at Senate' scroll. Just build some temples or so...
The idea is to continue until:
1) The People love you enough to trigger a message about being powerful to consider Rome and kicking out the SPQR.
The People love a conqueror and empire builder, and I believe capturing cities is the easiest way to get their support.
OR
2) The Senate hates you enough to demand your faction leaders suicide. Say no and they'll outlaw your faction.
If either happens, you can feel free to begin the civil war.
I was able to start a civil war without receiving either of those two messages. I had about 30 provinces and I just decided it was time to take Italy from the other families. I just attacked and nothing prevented me. I had never received either a message from the people or the Senate. My ratings were fairly high with both groups, 7-8 out of 10.
Yes, but is there any difference? :inquisitive:
I.e - a penalty if you haven't had the "your popular.." or "hated.." messages?
I've yet to try beginning a civil war without getting 1 of those messages myself.
Its one thing I'm not very clear on, are the messages just a hint or not?
COnquer conquer, conquer. The people love a winner. Since you've taken the Gauls take out the Brits or th Spanish. That'll increase your popularity with the masses and make the senate jealous thereby hasteninig the civil war.

I've gotten a message where my popularity with the senate was high and i had
a family member in the higest possible office.
Check your popularity with the masses. It likely hasn't reached th point where the senat will ask your faction leader to fall on his own sword or face war.

The consequences are death to your faction leader. It's not always bad though. If your faction leader is a corrupt feind who might as well not exisit, then he may be better off dead. Refusal, on the other hand, results in instant civil war! That can be very good if your not very popular and want control over Rome, but it can be terrible if your borderline defences with other Romans are very weak. Hope this helps, cheers!Quote:

I've found bribing the other Romans close to my Cities very effective, especially if I didn't begin the civil war through choice and I'm not well prepared.

As far as i know - i failed - it is not possible to please Rome - not the people, the senate - after you have been labeled a rebel, outlaw etc . High bribes don`t help either, offering regions, or all your money ... i had 49000 denarii when ended the turn got + 27700 ... i offered all was rejected by all 3 roman factions ...
If there a way i would like to know ... not that i intend to make peace whit all of them
Nah, I don't want peace either really. Was just asking for interest sake. The diplomacy in Total War never appealed to me. The AI is just too unpredictable.
Maybe the reason you could attack without getting the message Theodoric was that the other Roman factions were outlawed but not you.
me too!I played as Brutii,i decide to gained enough popular so i can wiped out those fellow romans that take away the pleasure of cunquering those greek(it is 28AD now,and Greek cities still exist and they remains as the master of the east,with i own the egypt and the rest are greeks)...Quote:

and Scipii have been declared as an outlaw too......
i decline to accept both mission,then i have been outlaw too!now Roman killing each others(at least from diplomacy show that they are no longer ally)
and same with Theodoric situation,my popularity with senate and people is higher than Scipii and Julii(senate=6 shields,people=7 shields)
THIS IS FUN! NOW I AM HAVING TOTAL WAR!!!!!!!!!WOPIIIII!!!!!!

AND i forget 1 more thing,that the Julii is larger than me(size of faction)
