For the same reason familiar stairs suddenly seem to be a lot higher and steeper when you're carrying something heavy.

Strange.I tested this several months ago and AI definitely had double or even triple amount of projectiles on veryhard...

i noticed the same thing i had 2 identical units of archers just to test this and AI ran out long after me (i used Indian Longbowmen)
