NEW RELEASE -- Ancient TW3: Roman Wars -- 30-03-08

This is the first release of the new series, and contains the Punic Wars and Britannia 43AD campaigns so far. Once again it will require a clean copy of MTW:VI 2.01, and it is strongly recommended to delete the files shown further down this thread in the installation instructions. Rename your copy folder to "Ancient TW3" and the installer will find it easily.

This is the "cut to the chase" release that includes everything so far released, and means you can install all the scenarios from a single download - no need for expansions, patches or bug-fixes :2thumbsup:

AND for dial-up users, there is a series of parts.

See below for details on how to prepare your clean copy of MTW:VI ready for installation.

Includes the original Bronze Age Europe early/high/late, Punic Wars and Conquests of Alexander.

Known issues:
- pre-battle map images still need to be fixed (I know, I know, but it's a huge job....)
- Alexander custom games still not working as expected
- dead bodies won't work for all units

FUTURE DEVELOPMENTS:

The next releases will see a major overhaul, and Ancient TW will become a series of mods rather than one large one. This is to allow for more features to be included. Currently planned:

This expansion pack adds some new battlemaps for the Ancient TW mod, with the necessary changes to the starpos files to ensure they are called up at the right time and place. It is intended to be installed after the v2.1 patch, but it should still work on a v2.0 install.

There is also available a small spreadsheet available which gives a basic unit guide - ie who can train what units, in which provinces, and with which buildings (96kB) THIS WILL NEED TO BE UPDATED FOR V2.0

INSTALLATION BY PARTS: especially for dial-up users

You can also download the installation in 4 parts, plus a fifth one for the bonus campaign. The bonus campaign can be left out if you want to get playing straight away, it won't break the main campaign. This expansion module will only work with the 4-part V2.0 install - it will not 'expand' a V1.0 install, and is not needed if you have downloaded the single-install version of V2.0.

You still need to start with MTW:VI, and follow the instructions below to delete unneeded files from the original. The game will work if you don't delete them, but it should be more stable if you do.

Once you have each part it can be installed into your new "Ancient TW" folder. Once parts 1 to 4 have been installed the game will work.

Ancient: TW is a combination of the excellent maps and units from HTW, placed on to a modified European map. The era it covers is from c1280BC to 700BC, ie the transition from Late Bronze Age to Early Iron Age. Installation requires a clean install of MTW:VI patched to v2.01.

Installation of Ancient TW:

To install this mod you will require a clean copy of MTW-VI v2.01, rename it to "Ancient TW", and delete the following files:

* all savegames and campaign logfiles (there should be none if this is a new install)
* main directory: all unit_prod and build_prod files
* battle/flags: Viking directory and all files
* battle/uniticons: all files
* campmap/startpos: all .txt files
* campmap/infopics/buildings: Orthodox sub-folder
* campmap/reviewpanel: Units and Buildings sub-folders
* campmap/names: all heroes.txt files
* campmap/portraits: all subfolders
* loc/eng: all faction_specific and region_specific files EXCEPT DEFAULT_FACTION_SPECIFIC and DEFAULT_REGION_SPECIFIC
* textures/men: all sub-folders and files

Once you have done this you can run the installer, making sure when prompted to point it to your "Ancient TW" folder. That's all there is to it!

There is an icon from HTW included for your desktop short cut. All units are fixed size and unscaleable - you can set unit size to any value, the only effect will be to alter the number of men allowed in a single stack (larger unit size settings give you larger stacks).

There are known issues:

* not all battle maps have a preview image, and of those that do, some are wrong.


Bear in mind this is a completely new scenario - don't expect to find the same resources and trade goods in the usual provinces.

As a work in progress, there are additions to be made to unit rosters, extra factions to include, and later eras to develop. Any ideas and feedback gladly welcomed either at the Org.

CREDIT where it's due: the Hellenic TW team for all the units and battle maps that have been recycled, Duke John for a new unit animation, Cegorach for some neat ideas nicked from PMTW, and all the support, research and encouragement from Axel, Dimitrios the Samian, Pericles and Western. Thanks also to Ashdnazg for his fix to make the "marching silhouettes" disappear.

A few faction notes:
* the Germanics do not have any chariots, but other things make up for it
* Egypt, the Hittites and the Assyrians are probably the best balanced factions to date
* Alisya is the faction if you like to build a trade empire
* invade Britain to find some interesting castles to assault
* a lot of the barbarian factions look very similar, but I've tried to make them as distinctive as possible



The V2.0 install includes three eras, a new campaign map, a total of 28 factions and 102 units across all eras, and the animations are sorted so that no "facshield" folders are used, which will cut out a major source of CTDs. The castlemaps have been reorganised, there are some new info pics, and lots of extraneous and duplicated material removed.

There is also a BONUS CAMPAIGN set in a later - but still "Ancient" - era with its own custom factions, extra units, and another completely new campaign map, and a variety of historical heroes.

It is a complete new install, and not compatible with old save games. It is best installed as a completely fresh version, although it MIGHT work if installed over your beta copy, but no guarantees - I've not tested it this way.

Due to a recent security upgrade at Google Drive some users will have had trouble getting these files. The links below have now been updated and should be fully public for downloading again.
