I ve been browsing this site now for 3 hours what a cracking site! I have 2 queery's.

1. My 1st game was with the English which I won with ease the mongals came along 3/4 of the way through good game though. I now want to se a game with south america and I think its the incas mayans or astecs Would it be the spanish or Portugese I would have to be to see this?

2. To have a really good game which are the most enjoyable nation to become Deity of and do you have any tips for these nations ?

What do you like ? Eastern or Western ? Cavalry or infantry ?

I like the gagets like elephants and strange looking units that the islamic nations have. I also like the thought of Richard Lionheart a English Knight also the longbowman giving the Frence the big V. As an ex cavelry-man (Hussar) I use them a lot. I played as England like I said in my first game the Mongals and turmids turned up but no south americans I shall play some more and read your link cheers:2thumbsup:

And America comes later than Mongols and Timurids and needs some special requirements... was it Naval Drydock, Explorers guild and maybe something else in any settlement (not sure if they need to be in same)

Any faction can get naval drydocks, it's the naval academy that's limited to England, Portugal and Denmark.

But yes, you need a naval drydock and the world_is_round event, which takes place between turn 320 and 328 - from 1400 to 1416 in years. And should have the game show rather years than turns.

After that, the race is open. You need to build ocean faring vessels, which any faction can do. But of course factions close to the Atlantic have a clear advantage and Spain and Portugal can build the strongest ships in the game. Furthermore, these two are the only factions that get Conquistadors (mounted and dismounted), really powerful colonial units only available in America.

If you are rather new to the game, I would recommend you play England or Spain. In my opinion, England is the easiest faction. Spain is not difficult either, but has some advantages on it's side. Not too strong in the beginning, you can develop the Iberian Peninsula into a real powerhouse and they have the most "professional" and diverse unit roster in the game (musketeers, tercio pikeneers,sword and buckler infantry, gendarmes, jinettes, basilisks). Spain is the only faction that can rely on it's cities only to recruit it's elite armies.

Actually i´d say Milanese can rely on their cities to get best armies...
Their cavalry is anyways weak so no bother on building castles.
as Spanish, their cities do get Jinetes but it´s quite low amount you can recruit and takes time to get more, and also Tercio Pikemen and Gendarmes don´t come usually before turn 100, by that time using full use from castles you can control Iberian Peninsula, northern Africa and Southern France... Amulhavgars are just perfect :)
Sure Sword and Buckler men are good cheap militia but they also come after about 100 turns...

My fault, I haven't made clear that I mean in the late phase. Of course you need castles as Spain in the beginning. In fact it's one of their strengths that you can develop Toledo so fast.

On the other hand, I find that the Milanese are short of any kind of sword infantry without castles. Of course it takes time to get to gendarmes, but you can recruit some version of any unit type from Spanish cities.

Edit: The Milanese Famiglia Ducale from their cities is a very good heavy cav.
Turks get janissaries from their cities but lack a city-based heavy cav.

Thanks for the input guy's. Sinan to play the Timurids as I understand it you must play as England until they come along then you can take over please correct me if wrong. Also what sort of level are you guy's playing at, at the mo Iam at med med:embarassed: There are so many hints and tips going round some of you guy's must have degree's in the game. I have got games running with, Eygpt, Spain and The Moors. What are the major sort of tips for the game. I only ask this as its nigh on impossible to remember all of them on this site.

A lot of people on here have been playing the games for years, which explains the level of knowledge from some.

I tend to play on H/VH, because I find the battles are way too easy. And on VH campaign, the AI just gang up on you, which while interesting, becomes boring for me very quickly.

I like to "turtle" for a while, and then expand slowly with small high tech armies. I play on 0.5 turns per year which suits my play style.

Some tips, that will stand you in good stead.

1) Build, ports, roads & markets in all provinces with a city, this will give you a nice income. Upgrade all of those as they become available in higher techs.
(Pay special attention to all coastal provinces)
2) Secure an alliance and trade rights with the Pope (Assuming your a christian faction).
3) Get trade rights and alliances with all the people your not planning on going to war with (yet).
4) Be honorable. Don't backstab the AI, wait for them to do that to you, then wipe them out. Wait for them to get Excommed first if you like, then sweeten the pope and declare crusades. :beam:
5) Pump out priests, and convert the papacy. This way you can expand easier with your own pope on the throne.
6) Spears and pikes beet Cav from the front. At least most of the time. Mass archers work wonders against slow heavy infranty. And swords beat spears.
7) Most of all, have fun!

Play around in custom battles, and come up with something that works for you.

Kidding aside, there's a trick out there that lets you start with a given faction, then give control over to the AI which will then go on full autorun untill the Mongols/Timurid/Aztecs appear. I can't quite remember it, but I think there was a link in the FAQ

Sinan Ive unlocked the nations apart from the one's that arrive later I was under the understanding that they arrrived later, HOWEVER seeing a previous post I now see it is pos! I did change the things that you had to do in C:............ But what ever nation I clicked on a new game they started to flash and I would start as ENG.

PS I found the NEW WORLD yipee with the Spainiards cool cool cool.
