I searched and I searched but, I couldn't find figurines of the Timurid's elephant mounted cannons. If I didn't know better I'd swear they were just made up...
I must admit I'm a bit skeptical also, I can't help wondering how the poor elephant would handle the recoil. I have a vision of lots of very dazed elephants with sore backsides having skidded over the ground on their bums.Quote:

The picture in your link is of one of the Schleich line medieval knights and they are all pre-painted vinyl. Althought the company is German, the figures are hand painted in China.
Since discovering these wonderful figures a few months ago I have collected almost all the medieval figures in the their line including the castle, catapults, tents, and jousting items. It's kind of embarrassing, but I have easily spent over $500 on these things.

While the Sierra Toy soldier company carries this line along with a wide selection of the more expensive high end hand painted figures, you can find the Schleich figures at much better prices on the net. Sierra sells the standing figures for $6 and the mounted ones from $14 to $15, but several other toy companies that do not specialize in only toy soldiers sell the same Schleich figures for $4 and $10 to $12 respectively and quite a few have free shipping if you buy over $35 worth at a time.

I use the soldiers with the old discontinued line of Playmobil castles. They fit perfectly.
The Schleich figures are fantastic. That's what I collect, too, but I've got all of them now, so I ordered my first bunch of BBI figures yesterday. They're the same size, and actually historically accurate. I don't know if the quality is as good as the Schleich stuff, but I'll let you all know when they get here!

Actually, I have a funny story about that. Years ago I was playing a tabletop wargame with a friend of mine (Warhammer 40,000, actually), and his wife said, "I don't want to sound offensive, or anything, but I don't get this game. It seems to me that it's nothing more than, like, playing with toy soldiers."
We just looked at her and smiled. What else would it be? ^_^

Those BBI figures do look really good in the pictures--in fact a quite a bit more realistic than the Schleich soldiers plus the costumes sure appear to be more authentic--like actually protraying the English in red tunics rather than blue like the Schleich figures.
Be sure and let me know how they look when you get them and if they would be compatable in a display with the Schleich stuff.

Of course, I'm just going to look at them, myself. I weaned myself off of tabletop wargaming years ago, because I don't have the time to paint miniatures or actually play the game. (Not to mention I have no real-life friends. sniff, sniff.)
Now I just buy prepainted toys and make little horse galloping sounds while I play with them. ^_^
As requested by Forward Observer, here's my "review" of the BBI figures...
Looking at the pictures on the web, it seemed to me that there was a big range of quality in the BBI line, so I decided to kind of test them by ordering one that looked like it was from a bit older, less detailed series (Henry V), one that looked detailed and newer (Hospitaller A), and one of the brand new releases, which looked really detailed (Crusader).
Interestingly, I found that there's no real difference in quality between them, and they're all carved and painted with equal subtlety. As a matter of fact, of the three, I'm more disappointed in the brand new one than the other two (I'll explain why in a minute).
Here's a quick photo of them, along with a couple of Schleich figures, for comparison:

The size is compatible, but the BBI figures are more delicately detailed, realistic, and less exaggerated than the Schleich, so they seem a bit smaller. Schleich figures range from small to kind of huge, anyway, so the BBIs fit in fine.
The carving is fantastic! They're a lot more detailed than the Schelich figures, and, as I said, more realistically proportioned.
The painting is good, with plenty of subtle shading, and neat details like dirt on the Hospitaller's kite shield.
The only bad thing I have to say about them (and it's not that bad) is that Schleich handles shiny vs matte finishes better. For instance, I love the way a Schleich horse will be matte, yet have shiny wet nostrils and eyes. On the other hand, on the kneeling BBI figure, the bottom of his tabard is VERY shiny, while the top really isn't. It's sort of odd.
With that figure (the kneeling one), there are also some differences between the catalogue picture and the actual product; His peacock feather crest is yellow instead of green, and the inside of his shield isn't painted like wood. In contrast, the inside of the Hospitaller's shield is very nicely painted. I'm still happy with the kneeling figure, though, since he can actually wear the removable helm. How neat is that? ^_^
The other major difference is that BBI weapons are extremely rubbery (maybe for some safety reason) and so when I unpacked them, every one of them was bent into some horrible pretzel shape. heheh
Luckily, my wife taught me an old doll collector trick that works beautifully. Just heat a cup of water in the microwave for two minutes or so, then dip the mangled weapon in the water, straighten, and let cool. Two minutes of work and all the weapons were perfectly straight.
Anyway, I'll definitely be buying more of the BBI figures. They're really very nice, and the historical accuracy is a big plus.
I'm still not sure that their horses look very good, though.

I first heard about Sierra from a post Rhedd made, and I've been very satisfied as well. I've gotten quite a bit of Schleich stuff from them, but the BBI stuff is looking very tempting . . .
