A forest of frameas - A Sweboz AAR
This is my first try making an AAR, but I hope I've done well. Please give me feedback on what you like and what you don't like. More is to come (I could've done more already, but I've been without EB (or a computer worthy it's name at all) for more than a month, so give me a break! :laugh4:).
Chapter 1: Uniting the Tribes
Part 1: The siege of Gáwjám-Rugoz
It's spring in 272 BC, and Heruwulfáz, the Sweboz Kuningáz, is in deep thought. -"Yes, it's time. The world is changing, and new winds are blowing. It whispers of riches and plunder in Gaul to the west, that is now weakened and torned apart by a civil war. While the Aedui and Arverni take care of eachothers' soldiers, we should take care of their treasure! But first we must unite. If we wish to hold any chance of having more than a few successful raids we must first grow stronger, and we must do so by becoming one. It is time for us to unite!"
So he had said to himself, because he was a smart man, opportunistic to a fault, and he cared for his people. But he, like his people, was poor. He could not support a cavalry arm, so he disbanded them and sent his whole army to take Gáwjám-Rugoz to the north-east, while he himself stayed home to govern Swebotráustástámnoz; focusing on the infrastructure, and preparing to go into debt. Recognizing Rome as a rising power to the south, he also sent a diplomat their way to start a trading relationship with them, aswell as others.
His army was to be led by his heir, the Thêudánáz Ansuhárjáz, supported by his brothers Hrábnáz and Atháwulfáz, 240 Bugimánnoz and 1407 Frámêhárjoz. He quickly sent word to each of them to meat up and lay siege to Gáwjám-Rugoz as soon as possible. As Ansuhárjáz and Atháwulfáz were close to eachother, they joined up half-way in spring and reached their destination in the summer. Hrábnáz, who had been further away south when hearing the new orders, could not join the siege until winter the same year.

The happy family.
Not long after, the garrison made up of 149 Sáhsnotoz, 372 Frámêhárjoz, 185 Swáinoz and 111 Bugimannoz, led by Hárkiláz and his 110 Ridohárjoz-bodyguards sallied forth. It was a desperate last stand.
The Battle of Gáwjám-Rugoz
Without proper time to deploy his troops, Ansuhárjáz quickly orders his frámêhárjoz to form a shield wall in front of the archers, who are already firing at the enemy. He and his brothers will make up the right wing, that is intended to flank the enemy as they approach.

The Frámêhárjoz just manage to get into position as the enemy charges. There are some holes, but it should hold.

With neither fear nor hesitation Ansuhárjáz quickly charge the unprotected enemy Bugimánnoz.
http://imagedump.us/uploads/118f91d271.png
But Hárkiláz is not a fool, or at least not a big one. He has ridden up on Ansuhárjáz's flank, taking advantage of Ansuhárjoz's preoccupation with the bugimánnoz and begin peppering them in the back with thrown frameas. Luckily the archers, though fair light infantry, can't stand against heavy infantry, especially not when they've already lost men through siege attrition and arrowfire. They rout. Now Ansuhárjoz quickly turns and charges Hárkiláz, while his own bugimánnoz along with Hrábnáz and Atháwulfáz charge their rear.

When Hárkiláz and his body guards are slain, their line broken and their returning soldiers are charged by Ansuhárjáz and his men, it turns into a full scale rout. Victory!

Re: A forest of frameas - A Sweboz AAR
Did you expand the size of your screenshots, because your screenshots appear really pixelated....
Besides that, great start! 'Bout time the Sweboz got an AAR around here!
Re: A forest of frameas - A Sweboz AAR
No, I didn't, and they look fine to me. :dizzy2: If more are having the same problem, I'll have to look into it, but you'll have to pardon me for hoping the problem is on your computer. ~;)
BTW, thanks!
Re: A forest of frameas - A Sweboz AAR
They are png format so they load like bmp and gradually gain clarity as they load. They are quite big though.
Good to see a Sweboz AAR! :2thumbsup:
Re: A forest of frameas - A Sweboz AAR
It been a long while since I saw a Sweboz AAR. About time somebody started one up again. Just don't stop writing.
Re: A forest of frameas - A Sweboz AAR
Yep, I agree with the others. Sweboz are a nice faction, a few roleplaying possibilities, and they need an AAR.
Nice update, good start, just keep it up!
Say, do you have any house rules, or just go the way you want?
Re: A forest of frameas - A Sweboz AAR
Go go go, Sweboz!!!! :2thumbsup:
I've started an Sweboz campain too (because of your faction chosing threat discussion :idea2:), and its being pretty cool, I've already united many tribes and I'm now assembling my first serious army to raid some heleno-celtic towns (I want their mines!!!!).

So would you advice reducing the size of them, or is it fine as it is?

I do have house rules, though I forgot to mention them here. Will edit them in - they're in the poll thread.
Edit: Here they are:
- Always use general camera, and nothing else
- Never be the first to offer cease fire (accepting is fine) to a faction I start out at war with. Never under any circumstances ally with them.
- Only armies led by a general can be controlled by me - captain led armies can only fight through ai (either ai controlled reinforcements or auto-calculated).
- Generals leading reinforcements are for the ai to control
- If the general dies, all units come under ai control (unless there's another general in the same army)
- A maximum of 2 slinger units in each army
- Strict role-playing is, of course, a must
- Governments always get the first priority
- Armies will be kept "somewhat separate" to represent the highly tribal state
Have faith and don't despair, because an update is on the way! ~;)

Oh, my mistake. My computer just had a brain fart......never mind!
Nice house rules!

Part 2: The Romans
With Gáwjám-Rugoz under firm control, Ansuhárjáz prepared to move out once again on Heruwulfáz’s orders. This time they looked west, towards Gáwjám-Hábukoz and Gáwjám-Hêruskoz, so while Hágárádáz the diplomat made contacts with the Epirotes and the Carthaginians, Ansuhárjáz took 120 bugimánnoz and 603 frámêhárjoz and headed towards Hêruskoz, while Hrábnáz took equal numbers and headed towards Hábukoz. Atháwulfáz was left to govern Gáwjám-Rugoz with 123 frámêhárjoz at his disposal.
In the cold winter of 271 BC they reached their destination. Neither would fall for more than a year, or 15 months to be more precise. So the sieges began.
Down south the Romans were fighting the Epirotes. Hágárádáz the diplomat had before returning back northward heard people speak about a battle between the two that had apparently ended in the Epirotes favour. A medium sized Roman force had moved towards the Epirote town of Taras, but along the way they had been ambushed. He didn’t hear any specifics about the battle, and he didn’t have time to ask around, but he knew that only a few Roman soldiers had returned. When moving north he also discovered that the Romans had also begun besieging Bononia and Segesta, but he couldn’t tell whether they would succeed or not as they seemed to be evenly matched. In any case, the Romans were doing well, and Hágárádáz thought it only to be a matter of time before they were supreme masters of Italy.
In the winter of 270 BC, the garrison of Hábukoz sallied. Hrábnáz with his 848 men stood against an enemy of 464. While the Hábuko-z Swáiut were both strong and fierce in melee, they lacked javelins or any other ranged weapon. Of course, they had a few bugimánnoz and skirmishers, both mounted and on foot, to back them up with ranged cover, but the lack was still there.
As the battle started, Hrábnáz quickly ordered his frámêhárjoz to form a shield wall with the bugimánnoz behind, slightly to the left. He himself would guard their right, learning from his experience at Gáwjám-Rugoz.
Though his experience wasn’t great, it proved to have taught him enough. The enemy did try to flank his right side, this time with infantry, but when they closed in, Hrábnáz charged them, just before the Hábukoz main line crashed with the Sweboz shield wall.
With his arrows spent, the bugimánnoz moved out of range from the Hábukoz counter-parts to protect themselves from their missiles, and prepared to flank the flankers. The enemy line had focused on the middle of the shield wall, so the left and right wings of it turned to flank them. The enemy cavalry was still absent.
It didn’t take long before they turned and fled, giving the gate for Hrábnáz to control. Quickly he ordered his men to enter and form up a defensive perimeter to face them there. But the enemy, realizing it’s inferiority to the mighty Sweboz troops, surrendered without a second charge. The general and his cavalry never joined the battle. Bah! What a coward.
(There are no pictures from this battle because of a small screw up. Sorry. :sweatdrop:)
At pretty much the same time the garrison of Hêruskoz sallied too, but unlike the Hábuko-z Swáiut, the Hêruskoz-Swáiut also carried extra frameas to throw. But not only that – they were stronger too. With the same support as the Hábuko-z Swáiut they should logically have a bigger chance of success – that is of course while leaving the generals out of the equation…
So Ansuhárjáz with his 848 men was up against an enemy of 582 infantry and 108 cavalry, and again he formed the frámêhárjoz into a shield wall, with bugimánnoz behind to the left and himself as a right side flank guard.
At first, the enemy foot skirmishers rushed forward to pepper the Sweboz lines with frameas, while another unit faked a flank to the right. Ansuhárjáz in his eager almost took the bait and charged them, but in the last minute realized his own peril and stopped the chase, without getting hooked. Had he fallen for it, he would’ve been separated from his men, surely put under heavy fire and things would not have looked good at all. A big shower of frameas begins as the two sides lines up in front of each other, making ready for what is about to come.
http://imagedump.us/uploads/4b6ecebde1.png
The Hêruskoz are the first to make a move. They charge the right side of the shield wall with one unit a bit out, trying to flank it. When they stop to throw their frameas, Ansuhárjáz seizes the moment and charges them head on. Just moments later the Hêruskoz crash into the Sweboz line.

http://imagedump.us/uploads/d31bbf5eae.png
Tired of being harassed by both javelins and arrows, the free left flank of the shield wall breaks forward to deal with the buggers. It’s at that moment that the enemy cavalry, lead by the Hêruskoz general, joins in from the right. Outnumbered and surrounded, the frámêhárjoz are in a dangerous situation. The ridohárjoz soon leaves them, confident that the rest will take care of them without their help. If things continue like this, he’ll probably be right.
http://imagedump.us/uploads/907bb5bc9b.png
But he isn’t leaving them because he’s a coward. No, he leaves them because he’s seen how his would-be flankers are in danger. They have suffered greatly at the hands of Ansuhárjáz and his bodyguards, and so he has decided to try and tip the favour their way by charging Ansuhárjáz’s left. That’s when Ansuhárjáz calls in his bugimánnoz to help him out.
http://imagedump.us/uploads/63c4d4b791.png
At this move, the Hêruskoz general realizes that he cannot win that fight. He retreats back to finish off the lone unit of frámêhárjoz once and for all, who are still holding strong – but is in deep trouble.
But the Hêruskoz would-be flankers’ rout frees Ansuhárjáz and his bugimánnoz, who rush to their aid.

After some fierce fighting the enemy is defeated. Both Gáwjám-Hábukoz and Gáwjám-Hêruskoz has fallen to the Sweboz might.

Re: A forest of frameas - A Sweboz AAR
that last shot with that general is Awesome! I can't wait for when the EB Sweboz general is released!
Re: A forest of frameas - A Sweboz AAR
We saw the first sketch of the unit the other day Wolfman. Even that isn't final yet, but it is moving forward finally! Yay!
Re: A forest of frameas - A Sweboz AAR
The reason why there's no update yet is because it was a sunny day, and when that happens after what feels like weeks of rain I for one am not going to waste that day in front of the computer. My apologies.

Sounds great! I've been waiting for that myself too, so this is happy news. Looking forward to seeing them in action. :2thumbsup:
