Is it me, or has the Lake Balkhash been placed too far to the north in EB?

I tried to upload a picture from EB (to compare with), but it didn't work :P
Are you sure it's even in EB? If it is, then it must be right on the edge of the map. I'm not really familar with the in-game Steppe and general far-east geography though, so i'm not really too sure.
There is a lake that looks very similiar to Lake Balkhash near to the upper right corner of the EB-map.

I think Ravenic's correct. It seems to be just outside of the (EB) map.
Sure it is Lake Balchasch. But don't forget that the earth is a sphere. In contrast to this fact, all maps, and so the EB-map, are plain. There are various methods of projecting the surface of the earth on a plain. Basically it's either you have the surfaces correct, or the angles. Further, various mixes of these projection types exist. And on the EB map, where I think the correct depiction of surfaces is more important than just have longitudes and latitudes right-angled, the latitudes do not run parallel to the edges. In contrast, the map the OP posted, is clearly right-angled. You can always identify the right-angled maps by the big misproportion of the continents' surfaces, depicting Greenland always in the same size as the whole South American continent. That's it.

Ok, here's my take on it. I tried to line up geography on google earth. The top right corner of this is lined up with the top right corner of the EB map (nearly, I didn't spend tons of time making it perfect):

The lake seems to fit on there as it does on the EB map.
Notice the compass. North isn't directly up in this part of the map.
Man, talk about an inconsequental error.
I mean, it's not like this mod needs more awesome scripting-features or historical units, but good placement of untraversable waterways!
A thing somewhat related to this is the southern russian rivers and the lakes that are on them. I was wondering that how many of those lakes depicted in EB (or if any) are actually artificial lakes created by damming and were not present at 272 BC. It's quite easy to accidentally use contemporary maps and not notice that some of the lakes in it are actually artificial.
I'm not actually thinking EB team would have made that kind of mistake, but still I thought I'd ask.

That is actually a very good point, it wouldn't hurt the map as such, but it would be funny if the devs had made such a mistake. :D

Oh no, we are very careful about those sort things. They are usually caught quite quickly.

So, there has been such errors?
Have we tried to take into account differences in shorelines and bays silting up and such between then and now? Of course. Earlier drafts of the map had more silt in the river mouth at Gader for one. I think changes were made to 'desilt' the mouths of the Tigris and Euphrates too. Definitely lots of changes were made in the Netherlands region. The Barrington Atlas was used to help get an idea of most of those lakes/rivers/shorelines. Do we need to list all of them? If someone has a specific one that they see on the map in EB but that they are sure weren't there in antiquity, please post them. It's that easy and reasonable. We'll take a look at it then for sure. But please don't say "maybe you need to look at all your lakes to check them" or "don't you guys know that there were differences between now and then". That will probably be ignored.
