My shields are screwed

Okay heres the prob

Created a Turkish swordie

Used azab/ me_light_padded skin
Used afghan javelinmen/me light_padded skin

dropped spear and shield frm azab
dropped everthing except shield from afghan jav

merge

do some file editing, game loads up fine, time to test, units loads up properly
except....

the bloody shield textures are all screwed, it looks like it is mixed with textures from some other shield or is mostly black. Can someone explain how to solve this problem and also tell me how to edit shield textures.
