What would you like to see in a WWII FPS?
So what would you like to see in a WWII FPS?
Is there something you've always thought should be included in a WWII FPS? Is there a certain game that you think does something really well which you believe is a really good idea?
Personally I think something of a mix between Call of Duty, Red Orchestra and Battlefield is a good idea, but I want to know other people's ideas.

Re: What would you like to see in a WWII FPS?
FPS's are lame. Just joking ~;) I have no idea because I don't usually play FPS's

Re: What would you like to see in a WWII FPS?
How about a WWII FPS that's NOT set in WWII? The amount of WWII games (ESPECIALLY ONES SET IN FRICKIN NORMANDY) are stinking up the market. If it was a WWII shooter, I'd prefer something along the lines of battles that havent been covered before, or not enough, like Finland, Italy, or THE ENTIRE PACIFIC CAMPAIGN.

One of the Medal of Honors is set in the Pacific. Big Red One Call of Duty is in Italy I think or Sicily I can't remember.

Re: What would you like to see in a WWII FPS?
Medal of Honor: Rising Sun, yes. But that's the ONLY WWII FPS that has been set in the pacific campaign. Except for random Sicily missions in the Call of Duty series, there isn't a proper Italy campaign.
Also, why can't we play the Germans? I'd love to play the other side in the Ardennes.

Re: What would you like to see in a WWII FPS?
ANZACS that is all I want to see in WWII.

You are almost as strange as a person I know at this place that was near a forest of trees, there was also a house near that place and I was sitting in the tree that was there.

Is the house white with boarded up shutters? Is there a mailbox here?

Re: What would you like to see in a WWII FPS?
>open the box
There is a leaflet inside.
>take leaflet
You take the leaflet.
>open and read the leaflet.
You open the leaflet.
The leaflet reads:
"You lost the game."
>kill self
You kill yourself.

Re: What would you like to see in a WWII FPS?
Enough with the WWII Fps games already. Resistance is cool because of the alternative history, WWII setting with aliens.
I want a ps3.

Re: What would you like to see in a WWII FPS?
Well, the only WW2 fps I have is Hidden and Dangerous 2 the rest I never bothered to spend money on.
It's weird that they keep coming even though I boycott them.:inquisitive:

Re: What would you like to see in a WWII FPS?
I'd much rather have trench warfare in WWI or skirmish battles in the American Civil War than yet another WWII shooter.
-
Re: What would you like to see in a WWII FPS?
Warfare kills people, this is beacause of war.

Well, there's Medal of Honor: Pacific Assault, as mentioned earlier Hidden & Dangerous 2 has some different theatres of operations and you get to play as the British.
And of course there's Red Orchestra Ostfront... :2thumbsup:
But of course there's been so much games about WWII allready in all kinds of styles I think it is hard to come up with something original these days...

Re: What would you like to see in a WWII FPS?
I think the problems with playing the Germans are:
1. They're viewed as evil and games where you play evil people are few
2. They're not seen as heroes usually
3. I think a lot of Americans like to play their own soldiers because of patriotism and because their own grandfathers were there, or maybe their fathers. But that's just a guess, you Americans should know that better.
4. well, Germany kinda lost and I guess most people want to win a campaign
5. a campaign around a losing nation is possible but it requires some phantasy and selective storytelling etc to make it look like the player is actually successful even though his nation loses, or you need to change history but apparently that is not the aim of most of these shooters, all they throw out the window is realism. :sweatdrop:

Yeah, I know. I found most WWII FPS quite dissapointing. I thought that CODUO was actually better than COD2 which was just fancy graphics in my opinion. I think Red Orchestra is great. Day of Defeat is good also, though many others are a waste of time and I haven't played many others really because I haven't seen any which really look worth it.

Yeah, Rommel himself described the ANZAC forces as the elite of the British Empire. But I've never seen a game ever address the Kiwi troops fighting in Greece, Crete, North Africa and Italy. I'd like to see one of the battle for Thermopylae pass that the Kiwi soldiers fought. :beam:

I remember playing a really good COD SP map someone had made which was about the British retreat at Dunquerke and it was really well done and fun, even though the entire battle was retreating. I don't think it would be that hard for developers to make a fun German campaign, it's just all the controversy which will no doubt be stirred up that is the reason they avoid it, I think.

Re: What would you like to see in a WWII FPS?
I'm of the same mind as Kekvittles. Enough with the damn WWII FPS's already. Or even WWII theme'd games honestly. As much as I hate to admit it, the guys at Penny Arcade said it best in a strip some time back, "Omaha Beach is the new Hoth." Of all the WWII FPS games I've played, MOHAA still stands out in my mind as the best. It was relatively new territory at the time, and extremely well executed.
I'd like to see some new military flight sims, GOOD sims, not arcade games, set in the Cold War era. Some well done hypothetical "What if NATO and Warsaw went at it?" scenarios would be great.

Re: What would you like to see in a WWII FPS?
How about one invading England as the evil doers?
-
Re: What would you like to see in a WWII FPS?
Brothers in Arms was a pretty good game imo

You might want to have a look at the Strike Fighters/Wings over Vietnam/Wings over Europe series of Flightsims, they're also moddable and you can get tons of new planes from WW2 through the Cold War to modern planes.
The original Strike Fighters has the F-4, F-104, A-4 and F-100 as flyable planes which is quite a rarity. The graphics are decent and with all patches applied, you can patch the old Strike Fighters to the technical level of the new Wings over Europe.
Concerning the cold War with NATO vs the warsaw Pact, there is World in Conflict, though that's an RTS without base-building and not a simulation.

As one of William the conqueror's soldiers, that could be fun.

Wait, wait, wait. You're missing something. Aussies as well. ANZACS= Australian and New Zealand Army Corps. :P
I wanna a WWI shooter. People say 'Boring, trench warfare sucks'. But really, it wasn't all fought on the western front. Gallipoli? The Middle East? Eastern Front? All of those (Except Galliopoli) were battles on the move. I'd love to see it, example, one time Aussie troops and Turkisk Troops (Their enemies) joined forces to fight off angry Arabs.
Anyway, I'd love too see a WWII FPS based in Pacific, or maybe Burma, Singapore, Kokoda for a change.

MP Rankings and medals and etc........

Re: What would you like to see in a WWII FPS?
I'd love a WWII shooter if it was, yanno, GOOD. Too many Call of Duty and Medal of Honor games have saturated the market with endless hordes of Germans in France/Stalingrad. If someone made a WWII mod for Operation Flashpoint, I would totally snap that up.

Well, there was the Invasion 1944 mod, but I don't think they actually finished it... this is all I found:
http://operationflashpoint.filefront...944_Demo;33780
Maybe some of the people still playing OFP know some more about this?
Did you ever play Hidden and Dangerous? I think you'd like that one... you can give it a try here:

It's a bit old but it is still a great game! And very different from the standard WWII (and) FPS games.

Re: What would you like to see in a WWII FPS?
m04r l33t 5k1lz!
Seriously, I'd love to see a pessimistic, dark late-ish (Russian campaign?) German-side FPS rather than the great American heroes portrayed in all of them.

Re: What would you like to see in a WWII FPS?
World War 2 has been sufficiently utilized as basis for games. Unless a refreshing product spawns from game developers' and publishers' hands in this particular area, the WWII theme is to be marooned by the games industry.
To address the question of what I would like to see in a WWII FPS, I have stated it is to be refreshing. Simple elobaration: the less covered areas of WWII in games, Russia, playing as Germans in campaign, "freeplay-like" single-player activity, the conquest of a European strategy map with appropriate descriptive colours and different possible outcomes and according storyline, etc., etc.

A good WWI shooter would be splendid and would... differ much from a WWII one I guess. At the moment my cogitation dictates it would minimially consist of static activity regarding many artillery bombardments, heavily fortified defences, static crossfiring MGs, many trenches, technology leap from single-shot rifles to submachine guns for effective close trench combat, gas, gas masks, bayonets, barbed wire, no man's land, etc.
Oh yes, a WWI game could serve excellence indeed.

Yes I know it includes Australians as well, but it's just that I've been studying heaps about Freyberg and the 2nd NZ Expeditionary force recently but I know almost nothing about the Aussies, the only battle which was predominantly Australian that I know anything about is when they held out in Tobruk.
So don't worry, I know what ANZAC stands for and also that our little bro across the Tasman helped a lot in the war too.
:tongue2:

I hop down 6 inches off a curb and die. Apparently, there's no difference between 6 inches and 6 feet in the game. A fall is a fall.
