Voracious 7-foot long jumbo squid invade California waters

Quote:
Jumbo squid that can grow up to 7 feet long and weigh more than 110 pounds is invading central California waters
The jumbo squid used to be found only in the Pacific Ocean's warmest stretches near the equator. In the last 16 years, it has expanded its territory throughout California waters, and squid have even been found in the icy waters off Alaska, Zeidberg said.
Yeah, yeah, I know what you are thinking, yadda yadda squid, yadda yadda 110 pounds, OK, its big, but I could take one if I had to. But the true squid watcher has a sense of history. This from 2005: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/sci/tech/4193409.stm

Jumbo squid wash up in California
Hundreds of dead large squid have been washing up on beaches in Orange County, California, puzzling scientists.
The creatures - which can reach 1.8m long (6 feet) and weigh up to 7.7kg (17lb) - normally inhabit deep waters and only come to the surface at night.
"These things are invading, and we don't know what's going on," an oceanography professor said
You see? Two years ago, wave one, six feet long, 17 lbs, dead. Two years later, wave two, 7 feet long, 110 lbs, alive. See where this is going?
Memo to Californian Orgahs: move to Montana, now, while you still can. Y' all don't want to be around when the 500 lb amphibious squid hit the beaches in 2009. I mean :

How much clearer does the warning have to be??

Re: Voracious 7-foot long jumbo squid invade California waters
I would like to greet our new Squid over-lords.
Now we can get quality movies!

Re: Voracious 7-foot long jumbo squid invade California waters
I'm not so sure the squid are the problem. They are just proxies of the evil Octopi. It has recently been determined that the Octopi have been funding their operations by selling archaeological artifacts on the black market.

As more and more evidence piles up, I'm beginning to think the Great Old One is behind all of this. :inquisitive:

I thought we warned Dave to keep his pets on leashes.

Re: Voracious 7-foot long jumbo squid invade California waters
I don't see the problem, squid is quite tasty, and if each giant squid weighs in at 110lbs that's quite a bit of meat.

You will surely be eaten when our overlords arrive.

You see an invading species of squid while I see potential for profit. Those Japanese would undoubtably go crazy for kalamari this big!

You see, this is typical of the Backroom. Those of us who know our world is coming to an end at the rampant tentacles of the decapods present Clear and Unbiased Scientific Proof TM* of that inky end, and still there are the complacent nay-sayers who just see dollar signs.
Where oh where is our messiah Al Gore and his "Inconvenient Sucker"?
*Statement bolded because this makes it TRUE.

Jaws was just a film about really big sushi to you, wasn't it? :laugh4:

Re: Voracious 7-foot long jumbo squid invade California waters
They've teamed up with the lobsters. Remember that diver attacked off the coast of Cornwall a week or so back? It's a classic military manoeuver. The pincer movement. :sweatdrop:
The squids and the lobsters are the footsoldiers, stormtroopers if you will, all controlled by the octosquid masters.

What do this things eat anyway? Might they go after humans?

Re: Voracious 7-foot long jumbo squid invade California waters
I'm leaning toward a Cthulhu/Nyarlothotep ticket in '08. The octosquids will have the vote by then.

Re: Voracious 7-foot long jumbo squid invade California waters
So politics is the true call of Cthulhu's?
-
Re: Voracious 7-foot long jumbo squid invade California waters
Politicans worship the power. People wanna fight the power. Cthulhu will eat the power.
-
Re: Voracious 7-foot long jumbo squid invade California waters
But does Cthulhu really have the stomach for American politics?

Not just sushi but sharkfin soup as well! Big animals just taste better, just call these King Kalamari and make a reality show about catching them and we're set.

When that inky end comes I just hope to have enough dollar signs to hang out in the ISS...unless they follow us into space.

Re: Voracious 7-foot long jumbo squid invade California waters
The real question is what squids think of circumcision. Depending on their answer, I can either move to Montana or welcome our new overlords. :book:

That is a real kick in the tentacles for this thread Alexander. But it is a cutting question worthy of discussion as those on the wrong side of the blade will surely end up in Octolobsquid penal colonies.

Re: Voracious 7-foot long jumbo squid invade California waters
I have no way of proving that some Orgahs aren't octosquids already. I would like to know their feelings on circumcision, gun control, abortion, religion and the existence of god. (A singular, benevolent god, as opposed to the elder gods who dwell in outer darkness, full of unfathomable malevolence.)

But unfathomable malevolence is fun!
I wonder what the octosquids think of PETA...

Re: Voracious 7-foot long jumbo squid invade California waters
I'd vote for Nyarlothotep, he (it?) saved my life once.
Ok, not for real, but when your character has a 99% chance of dying then rolling 100 practically shouts "intervention".

Isn't there a risk of Yog-Sothoth splitting the Great Old One vote?

I must agree; they're like George Wallace - love him or hate him, everybody knew where he stood (or sat, I guess, in his wheelchair, after getting shot... OK maybe not so much like him)....
edit: running for the hills ain't gonna cut it, I think. I'm gonna hafta move east of the Mississippi - which ought to confuse/slow down their advance (I hope). Gregoshi, can I rent your basement for a few months?
-
Re: Voracious 7-foot long jumbo squid invade California waters
Hmmm well I'll get to watch the Western US disappear from the safety of the Green Mountains, so at least I'll get to watch the best disaster movie ever made before I get sucked into the tentacled chasms that they call their mouths.

Re: Voracious 7-foot long jumbo squid invade California waters
I'm sure the folks in Southern California will go down fighting to the last man...over the movie rights.

Of course KukriKhan. It is unfinished, but I'm sure we can make it comfy enough. We don't need to fear squid or any of their ilk here. They'll never make it past the beaches of the Jersey shore. :laugh4:
