I was just curious if anyone knew of ANYTHING (museums/parks/sites) that could be visited in the areas of northern Massachusetts, New Hampshire, south east vermont and southern Maine. We are staying in Portsmouth, New Hampshire. Please help! Keep in mind there are two sisters of mine aged 3 and 7, so try to base FAMILY plans.:sweatdrop:

Dude there is nothing in Southeastern Vermont. I mean there isn't much here in Southwestern Vermont, but we have at least a fairly large town and a couple of tiny museums, Southeastern Vermont has nothing!
Not that I've heard of anyway. And I've never seen anything all that interesting when driving through on my many trips to New Hampshire (aka fireworks smuggling) or Maine (camping).
I think it was called Williamsburg, Va It's worth a look even if you aren't going to Virginia. It's a recreation of Colonial Virginia. It was pretty fun.
Dude, Virginia's about 12 hours away by car from New England...

If you're going that far south, you may as well visit Harper's Ferry. West Virginia Pride! ^_^
Boston has the freedom trail and all sorts of Revolution sites, its the hub. Since your in northern NE here are a few places I would reccommend.Quote:

Those are a few unique things I would reccomend, in all candeor Northern New England is best noted for its rural folksy quaintness. Lots of small towns, with local antique stores and this and that. Lots of Ski'ing there as well, in addition to lots of fall sight seeing tours of the green mountains.

If you head to Southwestern Vermont the town called Bennington has a museum or two that may be worth checking out for out of staters. They have some Revolutionary War era artifacts, and tell the tale of the Battle of Bennington, and probably a bunch of paintings by Vermont artists, including Grandma Moses (not sure if she's from Vermont, but she's from the general area). There's also a typical obelisk style monument to the Battle of Bennington, and right across the border in New York is the actual battlefield site. I'm not sure if you want to head that far west just for Bennington though.
