Any interst in an EB succession game?
I know there was a thread for something like this a few weeks ago, and I was thinking of participating in that, but it looks dead.
So, I thought I would ask if anyone was interested in doing a succession game with EB.
I would likely be using RTW v1.5 with EB v.0.81a V2. Currently, I've been using the roleplaying money script mod, but we could agree on something different if there is enough interest in the game.
I was thinking about playing as either Safot Softim BiQarthadast (what in the hell does that mean anyways?), or the Koinon Hellenon. The KH would be cool because players would be in different families that would have different regional interests. The Lakadaemonians would favor expansion of the Spartan way of life, the Attikos would favor Athenian policies etc. It would be very cool for roleplaying purposes, with different families eventually arguing for control of various regions and armies.
Might be cool. Then again, if there isn't enough interest, I guess I'll have to wait for EB2 when people are giddy with excitement. :2thumbsup:

Re: Any interst in an EB succession game?
I was going to participate in the older one too, but the "manager" sort of never came back.
I'll play in this one too, either faction.

Re: Any interst in an EB succession game?
Good. Do you have a preference?
-
Re: Any interst in an EB succession game?
I took a quick look at that King of the Romans AAR.It looked interesting,so I wouldn't mind trying one of these. However it would be my first one,so I might be a little off at first. But I'll get my act together, eventually.
Oh,and I'd prefer KH,though Carthage wouldn't be too bad.

Re: Any interst in an EB succession game?
Can you guys please explain to me what the succession role-play means? It all sounds very interesting but I don't know whats going on. Thanks. :)

That should give you an idea of what should happen.Don't worry about it though. It'll be my first time doing one too.I'm sure the kinks will get smoothed out eventually.

I would also prefer KH, ahistorical as that faction may be.
Once we have about 4-5 players, we should be able to begin sorting out things like house rules, mods, if we'll be using BI (a yes would mean I would have to find my BI disc), etc.
I was thinking that if we choose the KH, we'll assign players to different families, and players without characters in the beginning could play influential citizens, senators, whatever from that city. I'm fairly certain that KH has four family members in the beginning (but could be wrong). Two Lakedaemonians, one Attikos, and one Rhodios (unfortunately, he dies shortly after the game start, often 7-8 years before his son comes of age). If we have more than four players in the beginning, we'll distribute them accordingly amongst the families, and once a character comes of age, is adopted, etc. into that family the next player in line (decided by the order in which people sign up) would recieve his new character.
Now, about faction leaders. We'll likely be ignoring the faction leader trait for roleplaying purposes. We'll have a council that will elect leaders for however many years, and the player with that character will run the game. Detailed write-ups on the state of affairs will be helpful for the players who aren't currently playing the game. A "council" can be held every so often, so the different families can debate different things.
If a players character is involved in a battle, the player currently in power will save the game and send it along to the player who's controlling that general. That player will play out the battle, save the file, and send it back. A detailed write up of the battle is helpful.
I'll wait a few more days to see what kind of interest there is, and then we can finalize things like factions, mods, assign characters etc.
Sorry for the longwinded post. :2thumbsup:
EDIT: Of course, most of these things could be applied to Karthadastim so if more people prefer them, that would be fine.

Re: Any interst in an EB succession game?
I would like to participate in this. I very much appreciate the KH idea, so that's the faction I would choose. I'd like the rodian position, but as this guy dies very early.... well, we'll figure out how this should work I guess..:laugh4:

Re: Any interst in an EB succession game?
wow, very cool!
Well my favorite factions go in this order:
Saka Rauka
Getai
Lusotana
Safot Softim biQarthadast
Casse (maybe)
A little disappointed that this is more of a Koinon Hellenon preference, not a huge fan of the Greeks myself. Though I do like the sound of playing the Carthaginians.... I've been playing Casse, Saka, and Getai recently so if I am allowed in on this, I'll have to look into all the special stuff related to Kart-hadast.
-
Re: Any interst in an EB succession game?
And if I'm allowed on this and we decide on Kart-Hadast,I'll have to actually learn how to fight with them. But that shouldn't be too hard.Right?

Yep, you can actually fight with them in any imaginable style. Roman tactics, greek hoplites, a combination, something completely new....

Anyone who signs up is "allowed on this". I'm still going to give it a day or two, to see if there is anymore interest, but I think we'll have enough for at least a small succession game. :2thumbsup:

Re: Any interst in an EB succession game?
hey, this is my first post, but not the first time ive been on this forum (lurker) it was reading this thread that finally made me decide to sign up. but, anyway, I might like to give it a try. Ive never played as Carthage, but I have a game going now where im the KH. So i vote KH
-
Re: Any interst in an EB succession game?
Can I play? If so I vote for KH.

That would seem to be enough to start discussions on what we'll be doing. Other people are invited to join at any time. Like I said, if there is no available characters, you can still take place in debates, and a character should be along within a few turns time, provided were conquering at a healthy rate. In fact, it may be that we have too many characters, in which case the faction leader will play out battles led by that character.
Now, I think I've seen more people for KH than Karthadastim. I'm going to do a little research on the beginning and get back to you. Then we'll assign characters and discuss house rules, mods, etc. A constitution that our faction leaders must follow may also be a good idea, especially if we do decide to play as the KH afterall(which looks to be the case, unless 4-5 more people decide to sign up in the next few hours and vote Carthage).
-
Re: Any interst in an EB succession game?
I would definitely be interested in playing, especially if we're the KH. I think the dynamics of balancing the different families will be sweet.
It looks like i might not get a first generation character, but I'll stick around until I get to play.
-
Re: Any interst in an EB succession game?
I'd like to do this with a faction that has a senate, so we can vote on various things and people can be elected to certain positions.
That said, I'd prefer Rome, but Carthage would alright also.

I'll be around in a little while to set up a few things. I'd say we have enough to start.

Is this going to be similar to the fabled Wrath of Set?

Re: Any interst in an EB succession game?
I think each player should be able to control his charackter and the citys he (or his family perhaps) has conquered. But an important thing is: What are the privilegues of the leader? And what will happen if the interests of 2 familys collide drastically? A civil war on EB is not possible at teh time being, not even represented by playing costum battles, because there is just one faction with signifficant hellenish units. I remember a mod which does have 2 hellenic citys factions, but it is still beta and not as historical accurate as EB.
These are the first important things we should make clear.
-
Re: Any interst in an EB succession game?
Koinon Hellenon eh? Oh well, I guess thats where the vote is thus far
I am gonna research a bit on the Greeks and see what about the Hellenics I like and what I don't. Then I can better decide what my gameplan will be.
Safot Softim biQarthadast is very versatile and potentially super-rich... and there are two main interests, being expanding into Iberia and Mediterranean or going further into Africa... and they are historically two political movements within the Carthaginian government... it too is a great candidate for a succession game I feel. Because there's no interest in Lusotana, Getai, or Saka my vote is with Kart-hadast.
EDIT: recently may game has had MAJOR crashing problems... I may/may not be able to participate in this, just a heads-up

Interesting points.
I'm trying to figure out the best way to represent a loose-knit league in EB. Like you said, civil wars are not an option (wouldn't that be cool), so I'm thinking that each city state will have a set number of votes based on population....although this will give Rhodes a big advantage in the beginning.
Or....every character could have a vote, but this would give the spartans a lead in the beginning, although the Attikos family always seems to get the biggest, so they may eventually become too powerful.
Lastly, we could allow each city-state one vote, with the faction leader being a tie-breaker. This would probably be the fairest way to do it in the beginning. Different players from the same city state would have to agree on a policy and cast their vote. This could lead to some interesting family in-fighting.
I'll be putting up a new thread soon, which will be a "council hall" or something like that (should probably find a greek name to use). The first order of business should probably be drafting a simple "constitution, to keep faction leaders in check, and to explain the rules which every member of the Koinon will be asked to abide by.
Stay Tuned.
P.S. I'm getting ready to leave for a little while, as soon as I get back, I'll make a list of all of the players currently signed up, and we can go from there in regards to character assignments.
I've also been thinking about faction leaders. We should probably just let people be the faction leader in the order that they signed up, for a set number of years (or until they die, whichever comes first). That way everyone will have a chance to lead. Voting can be a slippery slope in these sorts of things, and I don't want anyone to feel left out.

I'm unfamiliar with the Wrath of Set, so I really don't know. I'm hoping that we'll get enough people for a "King of the Romans" type thing.

I think that's right, if I forgot anyone please point it out. I would like to start the actual game within 48 hours....
Is RTW 1.5 with v.0.82 acceptable? I also have the roleplaying minimod. Is this acceptable for everyone else? Would you prefer the balanced or challenging mod? Or a different mod altogether?
I haven't installed city mod, mostly out of laziness. Would players prefer that we played with that mod? Is there any others someone could recommend ( a good formations mod might be nice)?
Please read over the questions, and I'll eventually have to make a decision based on the general consensus of a majority of the players.
After this, we can assign opening characters, and form a simple constitution which rulers should play by. I hope that everyone understands that there won't be enough characters in the beginning, but I do encourage everyone to participate in general discussions. We should probably create a senate, where all players have a say, not just those with characters. This will also give people something to do once there character dies, and there back at the bottom of the rotation.

Re: Any interst in an EB succession game?
Only thing I have right now is one of those money-script mods. But I'll be happy to get anything else needed.

Re: Any interst in an EB succession game?
I would like Macedonia but I see thats its basically already decided that its KH but ill still play, I think I would like to take Attikos first son
City mod is a must, as is a money script and the mercenary fix.
-
Re: Any interst in an EB succession game?
I dont really care who I am, but I dont want to be one of the first ones, because ive never done this before, and im not familiar with most of the mods you guys are talking about. I just play the basic 81a. I dont know what the city or money mod is.

City Mod can be found at https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?t=79775
The AI Balancing Mini-Mod can be found at https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?t=79775
Personally, I recommend the roleplaying version. It will allow us to take things a little slower, and it will allow the less experienced players to still be able to enjoy their reign.
I was also thinking about using Darth Dark Formations for Eb which can be found here: https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?t=86904, although the recommended settings are huge, and I would prefer large so that most players computers will be able to cope without everyone having to have a $200 video card.
BTW, Remember to back up any files you overwrite.
Now, I have to go open EB and take a look at the opening characters. I'm fairly certain that there is 4 to begin with, so the first 4 who signed up will be given characters first. I'll try to make people happy in regards to character selection, but understand that for the sake of time, I would like to keep it simple.
I'll be starting a new thread for the actual game, but we can discuss house rules in here. I'm thinking something like this....
2 year terms i.e. 8 turns
Major invasion armies must be led by a general (reinforcements and local patrols[that don't go into foreign territory] may be led by captians).
If the leading general dies, that army MUST return to Koinon soil
Cities must be governed. If the city isn't governed, nothing can be built or recruited from that city i.e. check the boxes so it isn't automanaged, but don't build anything.
Any thought, additions, complaints are welcome.:2thumbsup:
