nv4_disp.dll Infinite Loop to BSOD problem
Perhaps you people with an nVidia card may have had the same problem...And boy is it annoying. Anyway, for those who don't know what I'm talking about I'll just post my case. For me it usually happens when watching video or playing a game (the game doesn't even have to be overwhelming, because it does not have anything to do with the game, is driver related). The game starts to stutter but not normally, you see it stutter a few seconds then it returns to fluid play, then again after 30 minutes or so, and after a few occurances like this it freezes completly, the BSOD appears and I've to reboot. I've a 7600 GT with the newest driver, my mother is a ASUS M2V-MX Socket AM2 (not the latest driver, but I'm reluctant to update it, I mean, even the main page of downloads warns you that it can damage the hardware), and I think that everything else doesn't matter. I've read all possible solutions across the net, but none works for me. Did a driver clean and reinstall on safe mode, wiped all nv4_dll files from my system (including cabs) and reinstalled (with the new driver)...But so far so good. Nothing seems to work, except my old driver, the one which came with the box, the only problem I've with installing older drivers is the obvious one, I won't get the performance bonus (which may or may not exist) and I won't get the new features and fixes. Anyway, perhaps it's a fair trade...So if anyone has any solution to this, please tell me. Thanks.

I noticed with my previous cards that newer drivers seem to cause problems on older midrange cards. My 7950Gt runs fine with the newest drivers but my old 6600GT didn't, I used some older drivers for it. The same might apply to the 7600GT series. :shrug:
You could also read LEN 's Guide to Modified Video Drivers Galaxy.
Also note that the newest drivers don't necessarily speed up your card, I think they're more about tweaking performance of those newer GeForce 8 cards and losing maybe 1fps isn't really a considerable loss IMO.

Nope, you're right, but the nVidia site always advertises the gained performance between the pros of upgrading. Thanks for the help Husar, I already installed my old drivers and everything seems to be fine (for now).:2thumbsup:
