This happened to me last night. I'm not at the mahcine now, so if there's any log files you need let me know.
Anyways, I was playing as the Almoheds on Normal, early start. The year was about 1180 or so, and the glorious acheivement rosters were recently updated (my new tasks were the Red Palace of Granada, Iberian culture, etc.)
Anyways, I was browsing what the other cultures had to do now, and one of them (I forget which, either HRE/Hungary/Poland, one of the Eastern empires i didn't car emuch about) had so many tasks that the last couple ones were written on top of each other in the list.
Anyways, other than the corruption of the list, everything worked fine. However, after a big battle where I wiped out the sicilians, I decided to look over the list again, and this time as soon as I clicked on said empire (I can't remember which one), the game closed (so ok not a CTD, but might as well have been).
It seems like the problem was caused by the fact that the acheivement list did not scroll (at least that was an obviously visible bug in the same area of the game).
I assume that since there wasn't a GPF window, there was an exception and it was caught, and the game shut itself down, so that's another clue.
