AI and ships?

I never saw them transporting armies with a ship?
Do they even think of it?

it helps but AI sometimes do stupid things.

They do use ships with the BI.exe but rarely properly, i.e. they mount naval invasions most of the times with 1-3 units.

I've seen naval invasions without BI as well. Real invasions are kinda rare though.

At least there's a good amount of troop transport across the sea: the Ptolemaioi and Qartadastim make some real use of their fleets.

I have seen ai transporting their troops many times even without the bi exe.

I have played for Aedui and Karthagians used their ships all the time for transportations of troops. They mainly transported them from Africa into Iberia (I was in war with them, and they transported many full-stacks this way) and also from their island to various places.

During the late part of my Sauromatae campaign with BI.exe I've seen a full scale invasion of Iberia by Carthage 3-4 stacks crossed into Iberia. It was funny that the stacks chased the ships on land (N African coast) until they reached the Gibraltar and only there they boarded and crossed into Iberia where they pushed the Lusitans to the north of Iberia it was really great to witness.

I have just witnessed the Karthagians landing a real nasty army (3/4 stack, including family members, elephants and sacred band) on Crete, owned by KH. I thought they were out for me and was short before sinking that armada but was happy to see them passing by Sicily and heading East. Fun thing: That fleet - their last one - was sunk by pirates after the invasion. So, that army will probably become the strongest (and most expensive) garrison of Crete ever.

in my games with karth-hadast romans never invaded corsica , despite having the smallest garrison in that place ( three militia units), they could take it without hassle.

Imo Creative assembley did a sloppy job at the naval AI. Other factions rarely or even never use there ships to transport armies , they only use them to randomly attack other ships unprovoked and for random blockades too.

In BI.exe I've scene the KH, ptolmies, and Pontus fight for rhodes, crete and cyprus, and the KH even landed a full stack with a family member in africa.

What difficulty are you playing at? I always do Hard(campaign), medium(battle). Never have I once witnessed such a beautified naval invasion...

Realy strange AI, I have only played two years more: That Karthagian army on Crete crushed a full stack of Greeks (KH has always full stacks hanging around in the woods on Crete and Rhodos) and started sieging the town. Some two or three turns later I got the message that both made paece. When I toggled FOW off again next winter I saw that Crete was still KH, the Karthagian army was still there and Karthago had not replaced the ships - what means that they still don't have any ships.
