Kindoms: They came, they saw, they stood still
Playing crusaders campaign vh/vh as byzantium, the monguls have arrived enmasse which is normally a nice little spanner in the works for various factions, but instead of running amok & laying waste all before them they're standing about on the edge of the map doing nothing. Anyone else seen this, or should I just reload my last save game & hope it kick starts them into action?
Re: Kindoms: They came, they saw, they stood still
Happened to me too a couple of times. Some times they stand on the edge for a while then suddenly starts to move. Once they didn“t move for over 10 turns so I attacked them which seems to activate them.
Re: Kindoms: They came, they saw, they stood still
Yes, the dreaded Mongol shuffle...not fixed in Kingdoms still, and I prefer to wipe them out in the Arabian sands before they start pumping out 0 upkeep armies and khan's guards.
Re: Kindoms: They came, they saw, they stood still
haha, same to me as well.
i wish i can "encourage" them to attack... anywhere, anyplace.
hard to wipe them out when the dread Mongol shuffle has 6 stacks of gold/silver chevrons units cluster together.
Re: Kindoms: They came, they saw, they stood still
I got the message that mongols are near bagdad, but never saw them. have you come across crusading venice around constantinople? they wandered around constantinople for 6 turns and didn't do a thing, till i finally got tired of them and attacked their 3 stacks and sent them packing.
Re: Kindoms: They came, they saw, they stood still
Well I reloaded, & had an interesting experience the Moguls got moving, infact they came straight for me, & had a jihad launched on constantinople :laugh4:
Re: Kindoms: They came, they saw, they stood still
i have a theory.
The mighty mongolian hordes was stopped, by the valiant efforts of the Bagdad's hawkers and merchants, eager to sell them trinkets and things.
The hordes attacking representing that after being alot poorer, the Mongolian hordes start looking to attack ANYONE. Kind of like the new (broked) tourists mugging someone for money, but on a larger scale.
hmm, is there a way to get the horde going? (editing file) for goodness' sake, the mongolian horde is meant to be the most mobile army ever on earth, not a bunch of elite boy scouts dancing around the campfire by the desert. the only fire they'd start would be on the enemies' settlement.
Re: Kindoms: They came, they saw, they stood still
i know what you all mean, i had enough money so i built a very strong defense network of forts where they were and stocked it full of hospittalers, then they didnt even moveto start attacking it? it peeved me off :furious3:
Re: Kindoms: They came, they saw, they stood still
i've only seen the Mongols like 2 times (since i can't play this at my home) on Kingdoms, but the invasion doesn't seem broken to me. It wasn't that they weren't acting, but they were evaluating what they could attack. See, what i saw was a horde of Mongolians looking for a home near Baghdad (I owned it, and placed a full garrison and a full stack of support troops adjacent) and there were a few other places they were looking to settle.
***Unnecessary Explanation*** - Skip if you don't feel like reading....
I thought to myself...why? why weren't they attacking? Then i noticed, all the towns and castles in the area had a decent sized garrison (likely due to it being a border between my allies invasion(antioch), his target (Turks), and my own offensive (Jerusalem, taking all lands Baghdad and south of it) at least half a stack or more, so i figured that they didn't wanna lose tons of men on a well defended target. To test my theory, i sent some assassins to some Turkish towns, which were semi-defended(less then half a stack), and had Generals in them, and "liberated" them of their governors. To my surprise the Mongols immediately started sieging the towns i dealt with and began to move onwards towards Antioch, but every so often they would stop if they came across a town/castle which was reasonably defended. I performed a little more wetwork on my Allies generals and watched as the Mongols continued to turn town/castles in their path into rebel owned territories.
***Unnecessary Explanation***
So to sum it up, my theory, the Mongolians are playing it really cautiously, since they know they can't re-supply until they take a town of proper size. Oh, on a second note, assassinating the generals make the entire stacks seem to disappear, so...... :laugh4:
Re: Kindoms: They came, they saw, they stood still
Interesting. In history, Mongols love to attack the weak fractions and bypass the strong fraction, acting more like raiders. In game, I assumpted that AI analyse ALL cities before moving, acting more like a cautious old lady ?
maybe they should allow more spawning of Mongol hordes instead of lumping everytime all at once. after all, it is reasonable to assume that Mongol invasions come in several stage. I wish that CA could have added that in the first place but i guess its wishful thinking. oh well.
Thanks for the info. Will try it out in my new game.

Umm, the Mongols DO come in several stages.
Three, I believe.
