Tomb of Alexander the Great
I remember seeing that there was a possibility to recapture the body of Alexander the Great when you play as Macedonia and I think a few of the other hellenistic factions. In the past if you destroyed the tomb you somehow got the body and was allowed to take the body back. How is that done in this version?
Re: Tomb of Alexander the Great
I sacked Alexandria when playing as Carthage, and the tomb was there. It was worth a lot, and it's always good to grind the Hellenes down. So I destroyed it :D
Maybe the body thing is successor only..
Or maybe you just can't do it.
Re: Tomb of Alexander the Great
I'm pretty sure the quest isn't for Carthage. Haven't tried it myself in any of the versions, so can't say much about it...

Re: Tomb of Alexander the Great
Wasnt it Augustus or something?
When he came to visit the tomb, Alexanders nose fell off.
Re: Tomb of Alexander the Great
If I recall correctly, the script for bringing Alexander to Pella was bugged and you were not able to properly place him in pella, you could only make someone carry his body along for the rest of his life:laugh4:. Perhaps in this version it is corrected. Perhaps an EB-Memeber can shed some light onto this.

I think Augustus was actually supposed to have broken the nose off himself :p

Re: Tomb of Alexander the Great
well I tried sacking the tomb with a general but I never acquired the body, I need to check again to make sure he has a space open for the retinue addition, thank you

Yeah I remember reading something which said that Augustus bent down to kiss Alexander (anyone else find kissing a three-hundred year old mummy disturbing?) and in doing so broke the nose off.
Re: Tomb of Alexander the Great
In my entomology class, I was told that he was encased in honey since honey lasts pretty much forever in a hardened state.
Re: Tomb of Alexander the Great
@Augustus-maybe he had a 'thing' for dead guys...:skull:

Cassius Dio wrote about it. You can find a translation here:
http://penelope.uchicago.edu/Thayer/...s_Dio/51*.html
The relevant part is on page 47:
Quote:
After this he viewed the body of Alexander and actually touched it, whereupon, it is said, a piece of the nose was broken off. But he declined to view the remains of the Ptolemies, though the Alexandrians were extremely eager to show them, remarking, "I wished to see a king, not corpses." For this same reason he would not enter the presence of Apis, either, declaring that he was accustomed to worship gods, not cattle.

foolish Augustus and his violation of the no touching rule.
AW: Tomb of Alexander the Great
LOL. That reminds me of when I once visited Florence. It was a school excursion a few years ago. We where in a museum with an old sarcophagus there. I was a bit tired from all these hours and hours of sightseeing, so I just leaned over on this sarcophagus as if it was a bar. The waitress of course saw that and she got very angry. She didn't say much at all but you probably know how scaring these southern women can look if they are angry... It became a very famous event and was mentioned even when I made final exams a year later or so.
Btw does the Alexander-returns-thing work in 1.0?

I think you need to make sure you're general waits in the settlement at least for a turn or two after.
Cheers
AW: Tomb of Alexander the Great
So does it work in 1.0 or does it not?

What are the conditions for this thing to occur? I got nothing in my Makedonia campaign. I conquered Alexandreia, nothing. I sacked Alexandros' tomb, nothing. I took my faction leader (who conquered Alexandreia) back to Pella and still nothing.
Re: Tomb of Alexander the Great
I'd think there would have been an Epiros version of this as well, but I haven't seen it yet.
Re: Tomb of Alexander the Great
It "looks" :hide: like that part of the script has been commented out in 1.0.:book:
However one would presume its making a bigger and better comeback into 1.1:smash:
Re: Tomb of Alexander the Great
I remember doing a small AAR (no idea what it stands for but that's what they call them) in an old version of EB where i played as the Maks, conquered the Greek peninsula and then invaded Egypt. It was awesome... almost every city i captured gave me a popup about how our ancestors had much to do in these lands many moons ago. Anywho, eventually i captured one of the cities and was able to send Alexanders body back to Greece where it belonged, so if it worked in that old version then it'll pretty much definately work in this one too.
