Pedites Extraordinarii & Massilian Medium Hoplites & smith upgrades
i noticed that in the EB recruitment viewer
which i use often ;)
that Pedites Extraordinarii are listed as having AP armor piercing
AP is refered to with the slingers in the faq
so according to this ap that the Pedites Extraordinarii are supposed to have......they don't in game when you bring up their details
also i noticed
Massilian Medium Hoplites have two attacks their sword and spear....sword being 9 and spear being 14
their stat in game is listed as being 9 for attack....while others first attack type stat is for spear first
noticed smith upgrades so the naked fanatics can get armor and weapon upgrade from a smith right....you would think all other units could benifit from a smith too
but some units in the game have Missile attack type.....instead of light or heavy
an example would be the Rorarii.....they are considered a missile attack type but they should be light for the spear

same with Druhtiz Habukisku (Chauci Spearmen).
Re: Pedites Extraordinarii & Massilian Medium Hoplites & smith upgrades
That's pretty common. I don't know the exact reasoning behind it, but generally the units whose "precursor" javelins are designated as something compatible with weapon upgrades seem to be from the more élite and/or generally better equipped end of the scale.
No idea how that works with the "siege" weapon type given to some post-reforms units for that clever scripting trick mind you.
Re: Pedites Extraordinarii & Massilian Medium Hoplites & smith upgrades
"siege" reform units cannot upgrade weapons. It even says in the unit statistics. We could have let it say "Reform unit" instead, but I think it would also affect the elephants (who use the "other" weapon type).
Re: Pedites Extraordinarii & Massilian Medium Hoplites & smith upgrades
Yeah, that's what I more or less assumed given how the trick works. Ah well. I take there isn't any way to get around it as it's conceptually slightly strange folks like Hetairoi Kataphraktoi can't buy themselves better weapons ? :sweatdrop:
Re: Pedites Extraordinarii & Massilian Medium Hoplites & smith upgrades
What, you think their weapons are inferior?
Re: Pedites Extraordinarii & Massilian Medium Hoplites & smith upgrades
"Heavens no, sir!" It's just that it's somewhat odd that all the non-"siege" elites get to buy sharp toys "just a notch (ie. one attack point) better". Not like I couldn't live with it of course, just a bit jarring.
I assume it's not possible to make the blacksmiths give a +1 to the "siege" weapons on the condition the reform building thingy is also present, or something similar ?
Re: Pedites Extraordinarii & Massilian Medium Hoplites & smith upgrades
I think FATW has a condition on the smith bonuses that cancel them out if you've got orcs spawning there (as they are turning to mass production of cheap gear). Possibly we could do similar, I don't know.
Re: Pedites Extraordinarii & Massilian Medium Hoplites & smith upgrades
I don't know the first thing about this stuff, but the "reform" works by somehow giving a +1 bonus to the "siege" weapons which negates a -1 that was in place previously and kept the units from being recruited, right ? Is it possible to do something like giving the blacksmith building a "+0 to 'siege' weapons" type modifier that gets that same +1 from the "reform", or gets changed to a +1 by the presence of the reform, so that the presence of the blacksmith upgrades their weapons, or something along those lines ?
'Course I might just be talking out of my hind end here. :sweatdrop:
Re: Pedites Extraordinarii & Massilian Medium Hoplites & smith upgrades
Um, that's just what I answered to in my last post :beam:. Possibly we can, but I don't think we should make a lot of effort for something so unimportant when M2TW has a much easier way to create reforms where we can avoid this workaround anyway.
Re: Pedites Extraordinarii & Massilian Medium Hoplites & smith upgrades
:sweatdrop: Fair enough, I guess.
