Thrace under the ptolemaic empire
I'm really confused. A Year in History states that the ptolys conquered most of Thrace... I was wondering which cities do i have to conquer so i could mirror the true life picture? Byzantion? or perhaps further north? i didn't find any specific names of the cities under ptolemaic control in Europe so if any of you historyans can help(list of names, map...) i would really apreciate it:book:
Re: Thrace under the ptolemaic empire
I'm pretty sure it was not referred to the faction but rather to a ruler's name.
IIRC one ptolemy was for some time ruler of makedonia and that could be the one in the "year in history" message.
Re: Thrace under the ptolemaic empire
Ptolemaios Philadelphos sent military support to Byzantion at some time IIR the YIH.
Re: Thrace under the ptolemaic empire
The Ptolemaioi did have garrisons in some parts of Thrace but I think that was in the coastal areas of modern-day European part of Turkey, like the Dardanelles or Hellespont. They weren't there for long either.
Re: Thrace under the ptolemaic empire
Take a look of the map / resp. starting position of Ptolis at RTR.
Or, better, take a look at an atlas of history / historic atlas and the related maps. Perhaps wikipedia.org can help ya finding one ...

Re: Thrace under the ptolemaic empire
The Ptolemaioi controlled Samos, Maroneia, and a few others cities along the coast for several decades during the third century. They were used as naval depots for Ptolemaic operations in the Aigian and Euxeinos and as recruitment centers for Thracian and Galatian soldiers. Their control never extended very far inland.

Ptolemaios Keraunos became ruler of Makedonia after murdering Seleukos Nikator (who had defeated the previous king Lysimachos at the battle of Corupedium). He was killed only 2 years later by the invading Gauls after which Antigonos Gonatas took over Makedonia again. This happened between 281 and 279 BCE though, so that is outside of EB's timeframe.
