Bersekers and temples
hi all
:2thumbsup:
i haven't played with sweboz yet, but there's a unit like the berseker in RTW?
with all the crazy demigod strengh?
also, another question
does EB have temples that can actually build units?
like the gothic cavalry in RTW?
(yes, i'm new in this forum, pardon my ignorance :sweatdrop:)
:2thumbsup:

Re: Bersekers and temples
No, No.
Ohh, and a tip, if you want to get along wih people here, try not to ask if units from vannila are in eb (appart from anything else the answer is 99% of the time no), and many of the people here don't have an especialy high opinion of vanilla....
That said, its a friendly bunch really, I'm sure you'll love playing eb. Just don't mention: Beserkers, any "egyptian" units, Galatains, lorica segmentata, arcanai, Galatains, gladiators, camels, Galatians, flaming pigs or Galatians, and I am sure every one will get along with you just fine.:2thumbsup:
Ohh, and whats gothic cavalry? never even heard of them. :shrug: Although I did play vannila for a grand total of 2 days...

Re: Bersekers and temples
As far as I know there are no "fantasy" units in EB, so a Berserker will not make it in, though the Gallic Gaesatae will be pretty close to what you mean. Don't know if they can be recruited by the Sweboz though.
And no, you can not recruit units from a temple at all.
Edit: Pharnakes beat me to it! Arr!

Re: Bersekers and temples
Gaesatae are for the Aedui, the Arvernii and the Qarthadastim.
-
Re: Bersekers and temples
No. We have:
Naked Fanatics fully naked without the diaper;
Galatians;
A jolly good fun complexed building & recruitment system - if you are not technically minded do not look at the code behind it;
Nightwalkers - In Dutch they'd be litteraly called "Schaduwgangers" by the looks of their full name-;
We've got lots of unintelligble gibberish - Dutch, Finnish and oh, yeah we've got plenty of them ancient languages;
We've got so many traits & script the PC may run EB a tad slower;
We've gone as far as to turn the battlefield into an unitelligble gibberish fest of Ancient Greek, Latin & Celtic;
We've got special stone walls for the Celtic factions + Getai;
And as always: more is yet to come.

i saw this naked fanatic on the unit page of the arveni faction
seems to be pretty fun
:laugh4:
currently, i'm playing has Koinon Hellenon, first faction on the EB 1.0
and, i noticed that KH can't build spartans in Sparta!
:dizzy2:
is this a bug or you can't actually build spartans at there in the beggining?
:oops:
-
Re: Bersekers and temples
Nope, no spartans for the spartans, they're too spartan.
-
Re: Bersekers and temples
You can recruit Spartans as the KH in Sparta... after you have upgraded your "MIC" sufficiently. (Barracks, if you will.)
-
Re: Bersekers and temples
Berserkers were a real group of Scandinavian vikings. Berserkery was a real "art." They were just inaccurately portrayed in RTW.
p.s. If you want to have some good ol' fasion blood n' guys fun, give the gaestae the berserker trait. Quite entertaining for a few rounds.:smash:
-
Re: Bersekers and temples
Is the berserker trait from BI?
-
Re: Bersekers and temples
The Lombardi Berserkers are. There might be another Berserker unit I'm forgetting from RTW, but, yeah...

Berserker's aren't fantasy :P
In a viking standard the Bezerkergang are the Black paint naked men in the Sweboz Unit roster.
Not temple trained.
BTW Pharnakes WTF IS A GALATAIN.
-
Re: Bersekers and temples
Heh, I missed the first 'g' when I first read that.
I blame all the Gaesatae mention beforehand :sweatdrop:

Yeah, I know, but the way they were portrayed in R:TW, you could say that's pretty fantasy. Just like the Arcani *cough*

How much did you pay for your slave?30 dollars?It does so much spelling mistakes.I wouldn't buy it even if it costed 10$.Look at my slave.50$ and almost no spelling mistakes,but the slaves english is kinda bad.
Will you never get tired of banishing the Galatians?What did they do to you?

Re: Bersekers and temples
I figured this question isn't worthy of a thread, so I'll post it here:

Taken from the EB.com main page. What's the name of this unit? I can't find them in the game, and I've searched every file (and all the unit cards).

This unit was called Wodanawulfoz. (=Wolves of Wodan)
Except for the mullets and the teeths at the waist it is a very historical unit (just look at Trajan's column or if you want more information read the book from Speidel), although it is rather unlikely that Wodan was so important at the beginning of the EB-timeframe. Tiwaz or Fraujon were the more important germanic gods.
After reading the comments of blitz and Handsome Viking i really hope that a unit like this (preferable with a wolf cloak) will be implemented in 1.1
The hairstyle is unique and the trousers have a nice look of fur.
The new unit should be called Wargoz and should be equipped with sword, shield and throwing spear.
Those wolf-warriors lived outside the germanic community and were sworn brothers in arms, who lived only for war and ended their kinship with their tribes. Definately a highly capable and elite germanic unit.
For my part i would prefer them as very rare mercenaries.
A unique and very rare unit, but i really hope for EB 1.1.
Talking about germanic units, we should also hope to see the Bear-Warriors too, which will perhaps make up a worthy opponent for the famed naked celts on drugs.

Re: Bersekers and temples
So are they in 1.0? If not, where I can I get them? I might like to implement them.
Thanks for the info btw.

Actually it is quite old incarnation of wodanawulfoz, from 0.7.4 or something like that. There was a new version made for 0.8.0 IIRC but I guess it was taken out for 1.0, only to be included later as another new version: the Wargaz unit Safe told us about.
I'm not sure about the dates and inclusions, only that it's a really old version of the unit in question.

Re: Bersekers and temples
But it's awesome! I don't care about accuracy when faced by awesomeness of this scale.:clown:
Anyways...anyone know where I could grab the skin & models?
-
Re: Bersekers and temples
I've kept back copies of all EB versions from 0.74 onwards, I'll get them for you tommorow.

I agreed with what you said in your post, but I wanted to address this portion of it. I have no problem with berserker's, but as I have said before they would have been to rare to really field a unit of them. I would like to see something along the line of bear warriors as being a tough elite, but I would hate to see them on the level of the EB version of the Gaesatae. I consider the Gaesatae in EB to be fantasy/fictional based on their historical performance.
-
Re: Bersekers and temples
Fantasy/fictional? got confused, I remember have read about them in many passages of Romans history of war...! Though they may have not been too numerous, they were noteworthy.. so I would not call them fictional … :)

I guess I should have worded it better. The Gaesatae did exist and in large numbers as you have said. My problem is that the Gaesatae statistics in EB are to high considering their historical performance.

I absolutely agree with Frostwulf, no 2 HP for Bear-Warriors as sadly for the Gaesatae, but instead the frighten enemy ability and some good stats.
The Wolf-Warriors - the Wargoz should make up a historical and very nice mercenary unit for germanics.
