Cash and Corruption

I’ve read through a number of FAQ’s and haven’t seen this one covered. (Shame on me if it is!)

But on RTW Vanilla, after you went past 50k in your treasury you’d get more slightly negative traits with nearly everybody becoming a little ‘flamboyant’. This increased with the more cash you earned.

Is there a similar limit in EB? While I can appreciate that you might not want to reveal the actual figure, would it be possible for somebody to fill me in by going *cough* its more than 200 grand *cough*.

Yes, corruption gets pretty high if you have more than 50k. One turn, corruption nifted me of 8000 Mnai (a lot, trust me!) until I constructed heavily and it went down...

I wish I'd looked at this post before I headed over to the library. In my Macedonia campaign, I currently have over 1.2 million mnai in the bank, so I imagine the corruption is potentially pretty high. Even so, after troop upkeep and all other regular expenditures, I'm still taking it in faster than I can spend it--Pella itself is, despite troop upkeep, pulling in over 7,000 mnai per turn.

As you can see, I have a bajillion mnai, and am suffering almost no corruption (relatively speaking), at only 519 mnai lost per turn.

What is the size of yoir army? 27169 mnai???? this is about two full stacks is not it???

Besides, you think I can recruit Romphaiophoroi yet? I didn't make all that money building MICs. ~;)

I actually am starting to bulk up the military. At the moment I really only have garrison forces and a couple of stacks. About a 2/3 stack in Pergamon getting ready for a campaign against the Ptolemies, a stack and a half in Sicily/Brettia, and I'm building up another stack back home for deployment as I see fit--it will probably first move against Segestica, and then I may use it and my Sicilian force for a two-pronged sweep into Italy.

One of the reasons I have so much money, aside from the obnoxious amount of money you make on mines in the Balkans (Pella alone is pulling down 4,950 mnai per turn just from mining income), is because I obviously haven't been expanding quickly. I've really concentrated on getting a stable population in my main cities, and now that I'm reaching that point, I'm getting ready to start moving out a little more than I have. It's 235 BC, and I'm only just moving into Asia Minor (capturing Pergamon about four turns ago), and moved into Sicily only a few years before that.

The main cause is that I'm trying to stick to casus belli conflicts only. All of my expansions, aside from taking Sparta, Athens, Epidamnus, and Ambrakia, have been into rebel settlements, and now I'm at the point where rebel settlements just aren't available anymore (except, of course, Segestica, but that will be out of the way shortly). After that, I have to rely on the AI to give me cause for conflict, and the Ptolemaioi have done just that. So, despite the fact that it may involve me punching into Asia Minor right between holdings of the Koinon Hellenon and Pontos, that's the war I've got, so I'm going to have to go with it. And maybe I can provoke Rome into a war, as well. An alliance with the Aedui might do the trick.

How the heck did you manage to get Pella to give you 7000 mnai. o.O Uh, lower tax rates to the minimum across the empire if you are getting too much into your treasuries. Give your people a better life. And employ more of them in the army for the heck of it. Built a limitanei line across continents, borders, etc. Start overwhelming AI stacks with 3 of your own at once instead of one against one. Money is there to be spent, and there are ways to spend it. :D

My copy of the Devil's Dictionary doesn't have 'ARMY' listed in it. What version is yours? Where did you get it from? o.O

Pella' income has gone down a bit because I've recruited most of another full stack, but here's the current breakdown:

Total: +6,695 mnai / turn


I actually have all of my cities on Normal or Low taxation in order to facilitate population growth. I haven't had high taxes on anything for something like thirty years.

I'm not building a vast Grand Army of the Monarchy because I'm a minimalist. Even though I have essentially unlimited resources, I still build the smallest amount of armies/soldiers I can that will get the job done. Although, just for kicks, I considered training up something like 25 full stacks, moving them around so that each of them is next to one of the cities I need for victory, and then hitting every city on the same turn. It won't happen, but it was an amusing thought.

I have The Enlarged Devil's Dictionary ("With 861 Newly Discovered Words and Definitions Added to the Previous Thousand-Word Collection") It's published in 1967, first edition. The extra words are apparently gleaned from weekly columns Bierce wrote for San Francisco periodicals. The work is edited by Ernest Jerome Hopkins, with a preface by John Myers Myers (yes, two Myers in his name). I found it in my campus library. Great stuff.

A little bit of clarification:

a. Corruption, as given in the above displayed scroll is proportional to public order- i.e higher the public order due to buildings that confer this bonus lower your corruption.

b. Corruption, as a trait along with other related traits occuring in your generals/governors/family members is defined among other factors the state of your treasury, any amount higher than that specified will increase the chance f such traits occuring.

Corruption is also determined by the distance a city is from the capital, not just governor traits and the amount of money you have in the treasury.

ie. If your capital is Rome and you have a city in India, your corruption will be 80%+ through the roof...
