I've probably spelt it wrong but i'm sure you educated people will no what i mean. what i want to know is ... is the recruitment of pezetharoi restreicted to hellenic capitals eg. pella, antioch, alexandreia and baktria because i've only ever recruited pezetharoi in those cities, and have only been able to recruit in those cities.
You should check the following folder:
EB\Data\documentation\Arka Unit Cards\Card Backs\Hellenic including Thracian\
Inside you will find file with pezhetairoi in the name.... :wink:
I have a related question. Why can I (as Makedonia) recruit Argyraspides in more provinces than Pezhetairoi? Aren't Argyraspides the Pezhetairoi elite?
And to answer Frodge's question. They're mostly restricted to the capitals yes, but you can also recruit them in Seleuceia and Demetrias.
yes pezhetairoi are recruitable only in a very limited number of provinces, I suppose the only ones with a consistent number of macedonians (and greeks maybe, for the eastern ones)
It's a shame Makedon doesn't have any klerouchai phalangitai. But then, from the point of view in my campaign, it's all for the best. Less phalanxes means less casualties...

Why are the argyraispides so much more abundant, though?
When ever my Seleukid empire gets above a certain treasury, I ussualy switch to argyraspidai as my main phalagnite, it is the only way to deal with the logistics of the Seleukid empire, when the AI is doing its stuff and gang banging you...
I did the same in my Makedonia campaign, simply because I can retrain them in Sardis. For the Pezhetairoi I have to return all the way to Pella, that takes something like 2 years extra.Quote:

The Argyraspides are veterans: the Pezhetairoi are citizens with voting rights fighting in the phalanx formation. Those two are *not* the same. ~;)
So... we get more veterans available everywhere else (I suppose they are also citizens with voting rights?) than noobs with voting rights? I still don't see why the veterans would be everywhere while the core of the phalanx is so restricted. But at least there are klerouchoi now, so the supply problem is remedied somewhat.
Ah well. I suppose I am somewhat fussy about where I live and where I can be recruited... xP You can look for my brother klerouchoi or my cousin argyraspidai, they're a lot more easygoing. xP
Actually, this is a good point and something that needs to be discussed.
In the Seleukid and Ptolemaic militaries, EB's Pezhetairoi are full-time soldiers. The Seleukid Argyraspidai are sons of military settlers brought into temporary, full-time service and attached directly to the king. The Agemata have instead been given larger grants of land.
This is different from the Makedonian military system and may require us to alter how the Argyraspidai are recruited by the Antigonid dynasty.
So you could have been kicking ass and taking names in the Deutroi and as long as you had the cash you could have been in the Argyraspidai in Makedonia ?

Yes, therfore if you could afford it you could be a argyrapaside in Seleukeia, but in Makedonia you had to be a veteran.

In the Seleukid military the Argyraspides were the sons of military settlers. What would happen is that the fathers would serve as the reserves while the sons would serve in the corps for an amount of time as full-time soldiers. After a tour of duty the sons would go back to the farms and stand as reserves just like their fathers.
In the Ptolemaic military the Agema (sorry, wrong term in previous post) were given larger land grants and much more money.
I'm not sure about the Makedonian military. Of course, in Alexander's time the Argyraspides were veterans, which is a system that seems to have continued into the Antigonid military.
It's a form of national service, so you're saying, am I understanding you right? Argyraspides are youths of a certain age who do a period of 'national service' where they serve as active units and the standing army. Then after the years of their liability to the crown is over, they 'pass out' of the argyraspidai corps and get status as klerouchoi reservists. Is that right?
So in the Seleukid army, argyraspidai were just fellas who were better at fighting because they drilled every day instead of every other month/year, but in the Antigonid one those who survived where others didn't? Hmm, then perhaps the Antigonid Argyraspidai should be recruited with a coupla experience chevrons as a bonus while the Seleukid ones have none... Just a thought.
