have you seen this? a whole ton of documentaries- roman history, barbarians etc
i'm not sure if it's a repost or not.
http://popperslist.blogspot.com/
i'm trying to find the best ones, but i'm watching Terry Jones' barbarian series right now. pretty interesting stuff.
i'd suggest everyone check some of these out, i've seen some of them and alot of them are pretty quality. i didn't look over them all, but i don't think it has the (really excellent) battles for britain series, which irc had some really good re-enactments and tactical level info.

Re: have you seen this? a whole ton of documentaries- roman history, barbarians etc
There's a Sabaean one too down the list - search 'Sheba' and you'll see it.

Nice site, you want to be careful posting links like that here though, not sure what the mods will think of that.
Cheers anyway though, have bookmarked! :2thumbsup:

Most are on google video - that doesn't look problematic to me.

Re: have you seen this? a whole ton of documentaries- roman history, barbarians etc
the Vindolanda program is very good. if anyone wants information on the late roman army in Britain watch this one.
-
Re: have you seen this? a whole ton of documentaries- roman history, barbarians etc
and I always thought saba was obscure of the obscure . The fact that a documentary was made about the area at least is good .
Anyone seen the black britons or nubia one yet ? any west african BS weaved in ?

Re: have you seen this? a whole ton of documentaries- roman history, barbarians etc
Holy crap, that was a good video. I wish the history channel still showed cool stuff like this. All they have now is crap about how we will all die from a natural disaster, or from an asteroid.

Awsome Blog....thanks for posting.

Re: have you seen this? a whole ton of documentaries- roman history, barbarians etc
I recommend Terry Jones' The Primitive Celts.

Re: have you seen this? a whole ton of documentaries- roman history, barbarians etc
Runes, this is like, the best debut ever made on an EB forum. You've found the way to our hearts...not under ribs, but through the documentaries we watch.
EDIT: Urgh! I can't watch it because for some reason my computer can't play audio when video is streamed, I have to download the file and watch it in my comp. But for some reason the download always tells me it's complete after a handful of megabytes although I can see the file is over 100mb. Anyone can help?

Fantastic find, Runes...many thanks!!!
Pez -- bummer you're having this problem...all I can recommend is that you make sure you update your software (update your audio/video codecs, etc.). Best of luck!

Terry Jones? :dizzy2: Man's good in drag, but as a historian? No ta'.

Re: have you seen this? a whole ton of documentaries- roman history, barbarians etc
the terry jones series is quite good, i'd assume that much of that information should come as no surprise to someone with a knowledge of history, but it's excellent for someone like me who only knows a few spotted details
(the part about the loss of the north african tax base is excellent!)
and thanks for the grats, i was looking for the rest of a documentary on Boudica, and i'm quite sure i googled "roman history" + documentary + streaming.
google has gotten so awesome.

It was surprisingly informative, I was expecting to have to listen to a lot of info on the Queen of Sheba that I wasn't interested in and pick up a few wee tidbits about the actual Sabaeans but it went into a good bit of detail on them. I must admit though I don't see them as "the richest people on earth" in my campaign.:beam:

He's just the narrator. The scripts are done by historians.

Heh. Too bad they don't have the Terry Jones Crusades documentary. I'd heard about that one.

Re: have you seen this? a whole ton of documentaries- roman history, barbarians etc
Terry Jone's secret life of Rome was also something I enjoyed... it's about the life of the common people, which is cool,, because frankly, I'm getting sick of Cleopatra and Caesar over and over again. ;)
