new theory of everything in physics

the article pushes the 'outsider' angle of the guy who created the theory. obviously to compare him to einstein. one cool thing about the theory is that is isupposed to be testable as opposed to string theory.
Re: new theory of everything in physics
Husar posted this one in the backroom News of the Weird thread already. Can't blame them for emphasizing his outsider status, "surfer dude stuns physicists with theory of everything" does have a certain ring to it :laugh4:
This quote is priceless: "It's hard to figure out the secrets of the universe when you're trying to figure out where you and your girlfriend are going to sleep next month."
Not trying to diss him, I hope he gets recognition for his work.
Re: new theory of everything in physics
If it is testable, time will tell us if there is truth in it or not. ~:)
Re: new theory of everything in physics
Well, he is not the average laymen. He has a PhD from theoretical physics and a nice list of his honors (though I dont have an idea about what half of them mean):
Academic Honors - Phi Beta Kappa, Sigma Pi Sigma, Golden Key.
Graduation Honors - College Honors, Highest Honors in Physics, Highest Honors in Mathematics, Summa Cum Laude, Kinsey Prize for The Outstanding Graduating Senior in Physics.

Though I agree that a title with a "surfer dude" delivers a bigger punch :laugh4:
Actually, his theory looks cool!
Re: new theory of everything in physics
Stuff like this floats along every so often. If he actually produces some testable hypotheses it will be taken more seriously, but for now all he has is an elegant idea. Admittedly the reason these things do surface is the hideous and distasteful mess that is string theory, but for the moment string theory is the best thing we've got that produces consistent predictions in some areas.
Some good commentary can be found here (Quite a bit of it over my head, frankly):
