Hi Guys,
Is it possible to make changes to one of the Roman factions without affecting the others? such as changing centurions, or standards? I would like to make the julii different only in appearance from the rest of the romans. If so can you tell me which files need to be changed? besides the TGA's and .CAS's of course. How would I address the changes in desc_model_battle.text?

If you only want to change the textures then the descr_model_battle.txt file is already set up for that as it has separate lines for each faction.
If you want to change the model as well, you need to make a new unit entry (copy existing one and rename) in export_descr_units.txt, and give that a new 'soldier' name. Then make a new descr_model_battle.txt type entry for that soldier. Look up instructions on adding new units in the scriptorium as that is what you would be doing.
If the existing ownership of the units in export_descr_units.txt is 'roman' and you don't want them all to build it you can change it so it specifies just the factions you do want eg:
'romans_scipii, romans_brutii'
instead, you'd need to do the same thing to their recruitment lines in export_descr_buildings.txt

Everything worked perfectly. I now have a specific unit that the julii alone can recruit complete with unit cards and unit_info cards identical to the game's original ones that I made myself, and found away with less steps than the tutorial I read here in the forum.

I have other questions if anybody could help...
1. How do I configure the game to save TGAs? all I get now is a black image.
2. Can I save, saved battle replays as an .avi or mpeg or any other format?
3. Is it possible to turn 3ds scenes that I've created into battle TILES that the game will play? if so is there a tutorial out there that anyone knows about?

Dont know whats up with that, but since a week or 2 I have the same thing, only can get all black pictures from the game, I cant find what the issue is, than again havent looked that good as I'm not that bothered anyway ...
Though if someone would know whats up with those all black pictures I's also like to know ... ;)

black screens from screenprints and in sprites I think could be to do with anti-aliasing settings, either in game or on computer graphics, try switching on/off
2. To get video replay of battle you need external screen capture program, I think I've heard frapps (?) mentioned. The game movie cam stopped being able to render in patches 1.5/6.
3. You can import objects like buildings/statues etc into the game, save them as .cas with vercingetorix's script first. See

for turning them into 'items' for the game. Search for 'custom tiles' to see how they can be introduced to custom battle maps and locations on campaign map.
You can't make all the scenery with a 3ds scene but you can tweak the landscape of a custom tile with the battle editor. Add -enable_editor to your shortcut and you'll find the editor in the options menu. There's a little bit of relevant info about it in article I did for last Gahzette..
