I've finally played the Turks to the end-game. Man, janissaries are something else... They just kill anything that so much as looks at em funny.
Anyway, I can't seem to build Sipahis of the Porte. I have a Master Horse Breeder and a Master Bowyer. Also, according to the strategy guide, my king and princes should (in the late era) command Sipahis of the Porte, but they don't. They stick with Ghulam Bodyguards.
I gave crusaders_unit_prod a cursory glance and everything seemed to be in order. The buildings looked correct and so did the faction...but I definately can't build them.
Has anyone managed to build these guys? What are they like? And how did you build them?

I also have this issue. I can build Heavy Janissaries and have built pretty much every building in Constantinople, but no Sipahis.
I finally stopped playing my Turkish game when I was overwhelmed by an outbreak of Almohad rebellion in 12 provinces. Ugh.
Shouldn't Turkish rulers be guarded by Sipahis of the Porte from the beginning?

Hmmm...maybe so. Not sure. I had just assumed that Sipahis of the Porte were "late" units because I couldn't build them. But now I can build everything...except them.

I got them to show up as the Sultan's bodyguard-- finally. It took a long time. I haven't tried to build them, so I don't know if I have an issue with that, but the Sultan is definately leading a group of these guys. I even had them fighting in a couple of battles.
