Idols must cease existing
I think it is called American Idol in America, but here it is called Idols where average schmucks enter before the jury and sing hoping they are allowed to continue. Lots of bad singing, commercial rubbish, simpletons who act like they're cool or tough, and so on.
What is strange is that just a while ago -- as I watched while eating and it made my eating a lot less enjoyable -- a few people were singing and they were simply rubbish, yet most of them were allowed to continue, while the next few had better voices yet most of them were disallowed.
Anyway.... this thread is meant to complain about the error that is Idols. It must cease to exist. It must perish. Now that you are still reading this post you are under my control and you will seek to destroy this programme and every version or variation of it. Now go and carry out the order under my remote hypnosis >:)

Re: Idols must cease existing
You couldn't just...switch TV channel? :juggle2:
-
Re: Idols must cease existing
For once I agree with you.
Sadly, I doubt that it'll happen as the show is a ratings machine and with the writers' strike going on, there'll be less competition. Sigh.

Re: Idols must cease existing
We have NZ Idol here, which is just as bad I'm sure. Personally I only find the first few episodes interesting because I like watching the judges verbally abuse the people who are so confident of their singing abilities but are so very very terrible.
I don't know if I quite believe you that the most horrible people get put through and the best people get told to sod off. I think you may be exaggerating a bit. :tongue2:

YOU are exaggerating ;P It was only once instance of this example that I saw, and they weren't the best or the worst but just a couple of schmucks in general. Made me think what the hell is up with those jury people. They ain't that good themselves either: just some schmucks who have something to say because they were a bit popular in the country, maybe sold (some) records in the past a lot, and now they are a cheap jury on some piece-of-**** show.
Just like this fool called Gordon. Oooooo. So what if he was/is well-known and a bit popular... he's still an untalented simple fool who sang rubbish songs he didn't even write himself :laugh4: And he thinks he has the right to be arrogant. He thinks himself special. What a simple fool.
Anyway, what are you doing here, Hepcat? You are under my remote mind control. Go forth and destroy NZ Idol :whip:

Re: Idols must cease existing
Yeah, well... We have Star Academy. It's worse than anything you've got out there, because they are locked in a castle for the week, and during the week, you can check out their "adventures", "trials and tribulations"... Whatever. It's horrible. The worst is that for the first couple of series the finalists became renowned throughout the country (still are, I think). I mean, they delude themselves in thinking they've got talent enough to be an artist. It's not by staying in a place, training for a few months that you're going to become an artist. It's something people have or don't. And most people don't.

Re: Idols must cease existing
The singing on that show makes me suicidol.
-
Re: Idols must cease existing
Carrie Underwood is good but I couldn't care less about all the other winners. The ones in the beginning stages are absolutely horrible and then cry when they are told so. The big babies.

Re: Idols must cease existing
Along with the various soaps and other reality shows, this is the mind numbing **** that is being sold to the public.
As long as there are people who attach more importance on this insult than they do on actual reality, we will see more and more of it.
Just feed them a load of **** on TV and they are happy.....
Speaks volumes of the populace, eh? More interested in who is doing what on TV than the fact they are being shafted
......Orda

I never said I liked NZ idol, I just said that the pathetic-ness of most of the initial contestants is funny. Usually I ignore it but sometimes I watch 20 minutes or so of the initial try outs which make me laugh. I know the singing is horrible but I don't watch it to listen to good music, I watch it to laugh at some of the contestants.
I think you should stop caring so much. Why is this such a big deal to you? Just don't watch the program if you can't stand it.

Re: Idols must cease existing
Few people actually watch those types of shows for the musical talent. Mostly they're watched by those that get off on seeing some poor misguided devil(s) make complete and utter fools of themselves and be ripped apart by the "judges". These types of programs pretty much sum up the attitudes of probably around 90% (when you consider how much of this rubbish is actually on) of 21st century TV viewers. Changing the channel is rarely enough, switching off is almost always the best option.

Yeah, I know. I also didn't say you liked it if that's what you mean ;P
It's not really that I care so much, it's just that I care about complaining about something :laugh4: However, I've been an artistic person myself, and seeing such commercial foolish rubbish that is actually popular shows me once again how ****** up it all is. A bunch of schmucks who enter some cheap show and then there are those who really know what musical art is about but they are totally ignored or not accepted at all.

Re: Idols must cease existing
I actually enjoyed this years "Australian Idol"
Lots of nice singers this year compared to last couple of years.. Except good singers got kicked out early.. damn Aussies...
Other years I just enjoy watching the first few episodes with all the abusing judges. I saw one of the American Idol season and Simon that british fellow was hilarious:laugh4:
Some season are great but some season are just terrible..(Last years Australian Idol... )

Just to get trapped by the same garbage under a different name on the next channel? Were he living here that is...
I sometimes look at a really, really well made Mugam competition on the Azeri state TV. Really talented and hard worked teenagers (among many simpletons and mediocres) show up, do the thing as it should be done and are evaluated by a jury consisting of ten experts, who are really good at their job.
Do totalitarian dictatorships have their virtues sometimes, one might think...

Re: Idols must cease existing

Re: Idols must cease existing
Let's start with the golden cage, Idols can wait. TV is junkfood for the braindead anyway, just read a book and buy your quality series.

Re: Idols must cease existing
I want to watch reruns of Star Trek, and Mrs. Beirut and the kids want to watch American Idol.
So we compromise.
We watch American Idol.

:laugh4: :2thumbsup:
My mom usually gets the TV and my dad resorts to watching in his Buero on the PC, has the downside of splitting the family up though but everbody is happy, usually.
I myself have given my non-working TV cards away and live without TV now, I spend the evenings chatting and playing games now, and the nights as well. :laugh4:

Re: Idols must cease existing
On a simular topic
Big Brother has simular problem, its flawed, very very flawed, when they pick people, they pick people who reckon will make good TV (Admitfully the Internet me would be great for this especially before 2006) so basically the mentally disabled (I also tick that box) fairly stupid (I do not tick this box, well anymore at least) and other things
Also the whole idea of it,
People, sitting in there home, watching the tele, watching people, sitting in there "home" without a tele surronded by the, there is no discription for these people or group without hurting someone
All in all Reality TV: Fail

That is what the genius who spawned this 'genre' thought as well, so now there is the 'golden cage', where the objective is to terrorise other participants out of the villa the last player wins. It's so incredibly vulgar in idea and execution, some people like to watch it I guess, there is violence, emotionally and physiclly, sex and they get to vote with their cell phones who the already picked winner will be.

We're lucky to have 2 TVs at home. The big one is always dad's property but at times bro seizes it to watch his football stuff -nigh only things he ever watches- and my father also pretends to be enjoying it as much. :laugh4:
The smaller (but better ~D) one is used by bro and me. When I'm on the computer he has his way and at other times I watch my fav series (BS Gallactica, Gilmore Girls, Foyle's War, sometimes 4400, Smallville or Buffy), National Geographic documentaries or other occassional stuff like Azeri Mugams or if there's ever a good movie or two.

Re: Idols must cease existing

But I don't have a T.V. so I suppose I haven't developed an imunity.:laugh4:

Nice, sounds like a step up from 'Undecover Lover' we had here. Throw a bunch of singles and a few couples together, the couples can't reveal that they are not single, watch the misery.
Reality TV has made me doubt the 'liberal' idea that people should be free to live their lives how they want to. A lot of these reality TV contestants need protection from themselves and society !

Re: Idols must cease existing
idols is fake... there is another round before the one you see on tv... there they put the talent in with people they know that are going to fail utterly... the people agree to be moronic on tv... i have no pity with them :P
