Anyone up for a Britannia hotseat game?
Hello,
I've noticed a few more people asking about pbms/hotseat games. Considering how little time the ones I'm in take up, and how much fun they are, I'd be glad to host a Kingdom's hotseat game. With the Teutonic and Crusades games taken, I think a Britannia game might be interesting.
Any one interested?
1. England-Zim
2. Ireland-Phonicsmonkey
3. Wales-Roadkill
4. Scotland-Privateerkev
5. Norway-Cheetah
Rules:
-I'll be setting up a console enabled game, allowing me to change passwords if something happens, but I'm hoping not to have to.
-Regardless, I will need everyone's passwords (pm them to me) in case a turn must be skipped or played by a subtitute.
-I'd like players to complete their turns within 48 hours of it being uploaded by the player before them, or to notify me if circumstances require them to have more time.
-Behind the scenes negotiation and diplomacy is encouraged. However, If you want to make a public ingame pronouncement, doing it in this thread is fine. If enough people want to negotiate in the open, or just threaten eachother or gloat over victories, I can start an in character thread.
Save naming convention:
Britannia-1-1
Britannia for the campaign name, first 1 for the turn number, and the second number signifies which player is up.
e.g. England goes first, when I finish my turn I will save and upload as Britannia-1-2. Britannia, first turn, second player.

Re: Anyone up for a Britannia hotseat game?
I just PM'd you but I'll put it in here.
I would love to play a Brittania game with you. I don't care about the faction really. They are all fun.
Let me know if you have any questions in setting up the admin version.

Re: Anyone up for a Britannia hotseat game?
Well, England is going to get piled on. Norway has to raid to make money. You have expressed interest in Ireland. So that leaves Wales or Scotland.
I think I'll be Scottish! :2thumbsup:
-
Re: Anyone up for a Britannia hotseat game?
Scotland it is, then, PK. :2thumbsup:
I would like to play Ireland, but I'm going to hold back from picking a faction until one or two more people join. In my experience, Ireland is popular in games like this, so I'm going to give someone else a chance to play them.

Re: Anyone up for a Britannia hotseat game?
hello - I said Ireland, but you have me as Norway
don't really mind too much though, so if that was intentional I'll play norway....but I'd prefer Ireland
-
Re: Anyone up for a Britannia hotseat game?
Doh! :shame: Sorry, for some reason I thought Ireland was at the bottom of the list. Obviously I didn't read closely or I would have noticed otherwise. :clown:
Norway's in a very precarious position, what with Norway itself not being on the map. I wouldn't force them on anyone.

Re: Anyone up for a Britannia hotseat game?
Ok, partly to make up for the unfortunate position one of the players is in in a different hotseat game (you know who you are :clown: ), I'm going to be every faction's favorite target and pick England.
All three somethinglands are taken, as well as Wales, Norway is left. Should noone wish to play Norway, I can switch with someone and they can play England.
Welcome aboard, Roadkill.

Re: Anyone up for a Britannia hotseat game?
Just to inform you guys I have never ever played hotseat before so I have no idea how it works, So it would be kindly appreciated if someone could explain how it functions to me.

Have you played any other types of pbms?
Each player plays their turn, hits end turn, then presses escape and saves. zip the save, upload, and the next person downloads that save and starts their turn.
The first turn you get you can enter a password, and then every time your turn starts, you'll be asked for it again.
Other than that, and the unfortunate fact that battles have to be autoresolved, it's just like playing the single player game, but with real players to interact with and struggle against.
Usually diplomacy is conducted via pms, at least if you don't want everyone to know about your deals. If you do, for purposes of say, threatening a large power by announcing membership in a coalition, just post the stuff in here(or an IC thread, if anyone would like me to start one).
Diplomacy makes your breaks you in these games, and being isolated can be a death sentence, so it make be good to make a deal with at least one other faction pretty quickly.

Re: Anyone up for a Britannia hotseat game?
How do you zip the save?
And yes I play the KOTR PBM, but thats all the same faction, these are diffrenet factions.

I was just asking to see if you were familiar with how file saves are uploaded here at the Org.
When I want to zip a file, I right click on it, which should bring up a list of options. Then I pick send to: compressed file.

Re: Anyone up for a Britannia hotseat game?
when we start, can you point me in the right direction for the upload link? I am also a hotseat newbie

Certainly, it's in the top post of this thread. https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?t=29005
Most people will likely post the link for the next turn's download here. If not, I can show you where to find them (hit view when you go to the link in that thread, then sort by date modified once or twice until it comes to the top).

Re: Anyone up for a Britannia hotseat game?
I'll take Norway, but it depends on me getting Kingdoms within the next week or two.
-
Re: Anyone up for a Britannia hotseat game?
I would love to do this, even as Norway, but then I'd have to buy Kingdoms. :inquisitive: I'm dying to get in a more active PBM as the MPC campaign drags and drags on, ahem, certain players. :laugh4:
:egypt:

Re: Anyone up for a Britannia hotseat game?
I think I'll have to give the Norway slot to the first person who wants it and has/is buying it before their turn comes. :clown: I'd hate to have it be AI, since despite a somewhat weak starting position, Norway is actually very powerful as a balance shifter, being the only faction without a real natural enemy (well, maybe Scotland, but Norway's powerful navy and large starting army mean they can raid anywhere).
-
Re: Anyone up for a Britannia hotseat game?
Alright, I just learned from the Console Enabled sticky thread that I can reset a faction to ai controled after starting the game. Therefore, assuming Norway doesn't go first, I could start the game and let a few people get their turns in while we wait for the last player.

Re: Anyone up for a Britannia hotseat game?
I'm noticing from PM's that people are starting the diplomacy early. While I applaud your enthusiasm, I would prefer to hold off on diplomacy until the factions are set in stone.
1.) As we saw in the Teutonic game, faction switching can potentially throw off previous diplomatic efforts.
2.) Starting the diplomacy now seems unfair to the people who haven't been confirmed yet. I'd hate for Ramses or Iggy to be left to fend for themselves simply because we set up our deals before they were even officially in the game.
As for Norway, I agree they should be player controlled. In a smaller game like Crusades/Brittania, it's important for all of the factions to be player controlled.
As for rules, a couple that seem to be standard with PBM's yet not enunciated in here yet are:
1.) Diplomacy has to be agreed to in PM's before its activated in the game.
2.) no reloading the save unless your computer crashes.
3.) tell people via PM if you do something they would be aware of in a SP game. Like defeat their army or take a city.
Of course if Zim says something different, that is what goes.
*edit*
I just saw Zim's post about starting with Norway AI controlled. Could we wait just one or two more days for another player? Leaving Norway AI controlled will basically kill Norway. The new player would start out way behind on the diplomacy and infrastructure building.

Re: Anyone up for a Britannia hotseat game?
Sorry for the double post but I just PM'd Cheetah. He has expressed interest in being in a PBM because of our talks in the Turtle thread in the Citadel.
-
Re: Anyone up for a Britannia hotseat game?
-
Re: Anyone up for a Britannia hotseat game?
Alright, now I'll just wait for Zim to declare that the factions are "set in stone" and we can start our scheming! :D
-
Re: Anyone up for a Britannia hotseat game?
Most of the post I had written is now useless, since we have someone to play Norway!
As for those rules, the second two are fine, but 1. should be more of a suggestion. If someone wants to send a diplomat with a proposal to a person they haven't talked to in pm, that's fine. The other player still has to accept on their turn, and nobody is being taken advantage of or anything.
What difficulty should I set this on? I'm thinking there's no reason to set it very high, since there should be no AI players and abttles are autoresolved (indeed, setting battle difficulty too high may disadvantage the attacking player, assuming the game takes the defender as an AI army). Maybe H/H, or even M/M?
Oh, and the factions are now set. Gentlemen, start your scheming!
-
Re: Anyone up for a Britannia hotseat game?
M/M or H/H should be good. Since we're just playing against each other, it shouldn't matter much.
Now, when are you putting up the first save? Do we get a little time to scheme and plot?
BTW, I'm quite please with how fast this filled up. This thread hasn't even been up for four hours! :2thumbsup:
-
Re: Anyone up for a Britannia hotseat game?
I was surprised how quickly it filled, too, especially with players mostly new to the Crusades Hoteseat games.
A couple of things:
-I will need everyone's passwords via pm. This is in case I have to get a substitute to play a turn.
-I have rearranged the factions in the first post in the order in which they get their turns. Conveniently, England goes first! :2thumbsup:
I can wait a while to start, although I suspect the first turn will be quieter than later turns.
-
Re: Anyone up for a Britannia hotseat game?
A.) We should figure out exactly what order the turns go in. Any of us could start a mock MP game and just skip through the first turns to see what order they pop up.
B.) We should explain the naming convention for the saves. I like the system EF used and think it would serve us well. A table on the first post would help make this clear when we have the order figured out. *nudge nudge* :D

The little numbers signify their order. ~;)
Naming convention:
Britannia-1-1
Britannia for the campaign name, first 1 for the turn number, and the second number signifies which player is up.
e.g. England goes first, when I finish my turn I will save and upload as Britannia-1-2. Britannia, first turn, second player.
With Roadkill offline right now, I figure I shouldn't start the game for a little while, so he can negotiate with people. Tomorrow sound good for starting?

As for starting tomorrow, sounds good. :2thumbsup:

Re: Anyone up for a Britannia hotseat game?
Seems I am the last, which is fine since I will be away from Thursday afternoon till Saturday afternoon. I assume it will take time to finish 4 factions, though with the enthusiasm displayed here one never knows. ~;)

I've seen some of us, like me, play their turn within an hour of it being posted. ^_^
But, thanks for the heads-up!
