Alexander installer bug and how to play EB with ALEX anyway
The topic of this post is not how to make EB work with ALEX. For information about that please go to

This is about a bug of the alex installer.
The installer always checks drive C for diskspace regardless of installationdrive.
If you try to install ALEX and the installer quits with "error -1" (or something like that) you are propably a victim of this bug.
To play EB with ALEX anyway you have to copy 2 files from the ALEX-CD to your harddrive.
The easy one first. RomeTW-ALX.exe can be found on the CD. Just copy this file to your RTW installation, into the same directory as RomeTW.exe
The second file is chat_filter.san.
This one is, of course, also on the CD, but it is packed in CAB files.
I will describe how to use i6comp to extract the CAB files, other tools can be found on the net.
To get i6comp go to.

or google for it.
Unzip the download in some directory, say D:\extract. This should give you, among others, the file i6comp.exe.
From the ALEX CD copy the files data1.cab, data1.hdr and data2.cab into the same directory.
Open a Texteditor and create a file i6comp.bat with the following line:
i6comp e -r data1.cab
Save the file in D:\extract.
Doubleclick i6comp.bat.
This will extract A LOT of files and may take some time to complete.
When its done you should find chat_filter.san in D:\extract.
Copy chat_filter.san to <your RomeEB directory>\EB\data.
Thats it.

Before your explanation I could not port EB to RomeTW-ALX.exe (though I do have Alex collector edition) due to Alex weird install bug.

Just noticed that Maksimus has included chat_filter.san in the "EB with ALEX" package.
So this whole procedure is obsolete.

Your suggestions are really welcome Gerhard,but I can't find nowhere the i6comp you are saying about.I tried both the link you posted and by google,but both were misleading.Could you please reply posting the exact link for this file? Thanks.
(I've been dying to play this game for a lot of time now)

Attilla298, welcome to the .Org. I am afraid this is a pretty old thread, and Gerhard hasn't logged in recently, so it's no wonder the links are dead.
Should I move this thread to the submod forum? EB-Alexander is not supported by the team, so technically it doesn't belong in EB's bug forums. On the other hand, the EB-Alex thread is already huge and I am not sure if Maksimus still updates it.
