How do I make Mod & Faction Descriptions?

I am in the middle of making a 'Mod'. This is actually of RTR rather than RTW. I would like to make a description of my mod/campaign-where do I do this? Also to change the faction descriptions (In campaign_descriptions.txt). And to slightly modify the Faction names in expanded.txt, strat.txt and shared.txt. I know I can do this by modifying these files in data/text folder. But then these modifications apply to the basic game also (unless I make backups and switch these files each time I want to switch from a basic game to my mod). Is there a way to do this? (ie so no need to switch these files if I want to periodically play basic RTR, not my mod. I have tried naming these files My_Campaign_shared.txt etc, like you do with imperial_campaign_regions_and_settlement_names. But does not work. In Spartan there was a system where you could make a mirror file directory for your Mod so no need to change files. Is there nothing like that which I can do?

You can use the -mod switch to maintain multiple mods on the same installation of RTW. A quick search of the forums should turn up some instructions for using it.
