I have been playing EB 1.0 for as long as it has been released, only recently however I installed Barbarian invasions for EB. Shortly after doing this I noticed that enemy factions were now recruiting mercenaries. Am I correct in assuming that they wont do this unless BI is installed? Or have they been doing it all along and I am just now noticing it?
Without BI, i see them use mercs all the time.
Hmm, interesting I just now noticed it. Does the AI use mercenaries in RTW vanilla?
It really doesn't have anything to do with BI. In EB, the AI is given more money to use via script. Therefore, it has more money to spend on mercs. Sometimes at the expense of building infrastructure but more money nonetheless. I don't remember how it worked in vanilla but it's a pretty safe bet the Vanilla AI didn't use as many mercs as the EB AI due to the money given via script.
Whether or not the AI uses mercenaries depends on campaign difficulty levels. Perhaps in BI, they will hire mercenaries at lower difficulty levels.
