IMPORTING RTW & MED2 IMAGES ?

:idea2: ... Just wondering if its possible to utilise images from RTW and beyond in MTW and the various mods ?
Items like portaits - event pics - buildings - temples - unit review panels etc etc and as much as we can use !
I have both RTW & BI + some mods but I don't like playing them because of their issues RE: illogic AI moves /non-moves & battfeild intelligence .:wall:
By succesfully being able to import & modify to suit we can have a myriad of tga's bifs & bufs + LBM's to use .
Perhaps someone has succesfully done it ?
Perhaps someone has though about it but hasn't got around to trying it !
Any info or your thoughts are appreciated .
Lets keep striving to make MTW better as it seems to have travelled backwards since then .

Hi DTS, yep, it's quite possible, I've used some RTW unit graphics for info pics for Punic units. You need to grab the RTW unpak tool (see RTW modding forum for links) and unpack a couple of data/ui directories. The infopics are TGAs, so easy to open up with Photoshop (even browse them, which is handy) and convert into BIFs from there by the usual route. What I tended to do was open them up as TGAs, desaturate them to grey, then recolourise, and copy them across into blank parchments then cut out the needed area and fill the rest with BIF transparent green to reduce filesize. :2thumbsup:

You could also make coloured infopics if you use those RTW's pics. They will look better than the black and white pics. It's easy to make with CA tool called Purpgrab.

We can ask the moderator to make it sticky and you can begin the tutorial .
In it along with Mac you can illustrate and describe how to make all the unit icons & review panels , parchments & much much more .
I will be a student observing and asking and ofcourse practising .

I have just downloaded some of them .. :dizzy2: .. CAS DDS PAK and IDX . Can you remember which one you used ?

IIRC it's the PAK tool that opens up the RTW packs, but I'm afraid all the details are on my home PC, so can't check for sure. It has some quirks, but the readme and/or the forum thread explain it all.

I thought when you turned it into a BIF, it had to be 256 colours, which look awful. :inquisitive:

I don't think I'll be fouling the pretty works of M2TW by turning them into 256 colours. Esp. when you get lazy and just use paint to change it to a 256.

A bif is better than no bif
It won't look any more different than what we already use ...
