Are you smarter than a 5th grader?
a blond gets asked "Budapest is the capital of which country?
*hilarity ensues*
http://www.boreme.com/boreme/funny-2...y-p1.php?emf=1
"I thought Europe was a country."
"Is France a country?"
"I'm listening to what you're saying, but I only hear what I want to."
"That's just called being a woman."
:laugh4:

Heheheheh! :laugh4: She is like some prototype of a stupid good-looking woman. What a great video, I'm gonna watch it again!

Re: Are you smarter than a 5th grader?
:wall:
I don't think I could stand watching this show. It's embarrassing.

If anyone cares, that lady is Kelly Pickler. She's a Country Music singer.
-
Re: Are you smarter than a 5th grader?
Ha!
The twit can't pronouce it either though.
Anyway, if you were American and didn't care about the rest of the world I can understand why you might think Europe was a country. It's big, it has a flag and open borders.

Re: Are you smarter than a 5th grader?

There's worse. There always is over here.
Some smart ass goes out and interviews the people on the street. The question is: "It's been, as you know, discovered that the Egyptian pyramids were smuggled out of Turkey; what do you think?"
All interviewees fall to that, or only those that fall are on the video. They comment with the usual stuff you get out of anyone. The punchline is, one of them is a history teacher. :stunned:

Re: Are you smarter than a 5th grader?
Hehe.
The only Dutch example I can think of right now is an old one, and I don't have a link. They showed a bunch of people this traffic sign and asked them what it meant. (it means there could be snow or ice on the road so it might be slippery)
Among the answers was one person who thought it indicated a six-way road junction and one who thought it was a swatsika.

Re: Are you smarter than a 5th grader?
This is pure gold!
"This might be a stupid question". - Yea!
"I know that they speak french there ... " - Oui, mon ami! :laugh4: Look at the man' face when she said that! Like :wall:
the guy: "Women do not really want to hear men's oppinion they just want to hear their oppinion in a deeper voice!" - brilliant!!! :laugh4:
the guy: "The right answer is Hungary"
blonde: "Is what?"
the guy: "Hungary, like I am hungry"
blonde: "That is a country?" :laugh4: :laugh4: :laugh4: :wall:
blodne: "I have heard of turkey but hungry?" :laugh4: :laugh4: :laugh4: :laugh4: :help: :laugh4: :laugh4: :laugh4: :help:
Thx again, pure gold!!!!

Yeah, it's really hillarious and the woman is the stereotype we Europeans like to think of when we're talking about our friends on the other side of the Ocean...
...but be serious, how many Europeans can link all the American states to their capitals. I know I wouldn't be able to name them all.

America is a single country though with some states, unlike Europe which is a lot of countries close together with their own states.
Still, its quite surprising how ignorant some people can be. Is there something like a geography class over there? If so, someone should make some amends to the curriculum as it certainly does not seem to be effective.
It kind of makes you wonder when you say "Let's go to war with Afghanistan" how many people actually knew what Afghanistan is and where it is located.

Unfortunately I couldn't find the one where they had some US citizens identify Australia as North Korea and Tasmania (southern Australian state) as South Korea :laugh4:

My old choirmistress's even older late big brother told us in a past festival visit... He stayed at a hospital in Cleveland. During the chat with a nurse he asks her if she ever wished to learn a foreign language. "Why" she says, "everybody speaks English!" He pushes: "Wouldn't it be fine to talk to the natives in, say, Germany in their own tongue?" The answer:

no one is criticizing the woman for not knowing what the capital of hungary is.....I don´t know all european capitals by memory either...
it´s the "I didn´t even know that was a country" and "don´t they speak french there" lines that are killer :laugh4:
I don´t know all US state capitals either...but I´m aware they exist....there´s a difference.

Re: Are you smarter than a 5th grader?
It's not important for Romans to know the capital of Backwateruria but for Backwaterurians to know where Rome is. Gah!
The biggest argument against democracy is a five minute conversation with the average voter.
Oh, love the hair on the Aussie guy. What the hell? How can he criticize anyone? :laugh4:

I am not saying that we know everything over here, far from it. Just this whole conversation was funny from the beggining to the end (and perhaps more to a hungarian than to anyone else).
BTW, what I found really amazing (shocking) is not that she never heard about Hungary (fine), not that she did not know that France is a country (!), not that she thought that Europe is a country, but apparently she never heard about ... Paris !!!
How come that a woman of her age, beauty and ambitions never heard about Paris? :inquisitive:
-
Re: Are you smarter than a 5th grader?
Maybe she only heard about the "other" Paris :laugh4:

I think I remember that one. Too bad I can't find the link. Though I think I posted this one in the Backroom video thread once.

Re: Are you smarter than a 5th grader?
Just for the record, you guys know it's all an act, right?
Jeff Foxworthy (the MC) has made a 20-year career out of poking fun at "rednecks" and their exaggerted ignorance on topics any more complicated than NASCAR standings or possum stew.
And Kelly Pickler rose to fame on American Idol despite having only a slightly above-average singing voice, it large part because of her "disarmingly simple" persona - which enamoured her to a couple of judges and the Idol-watching viewers/voters.
So "country hick blonde" meets "wise-cracking quiz-show host", on a show designed to prove that schoolkids know more than adults. Hilarity ensues. And it's apparently the best our networks can offer for entertainment during a Hollywood writers strike.
Which is not to say it isn't sometimes embarrassing to watch my countrymen mangle news stories, geography, and names. :embarassed:

You mean those states have capitals? :laugh4:
Reminds me so do our "states", makes me wonder what they are... :sweatdrop:

I got really outraged when I learned that Tanzania's capital had been moved from Dāru's-selām to Dodoma a few years before. :wall:

It's one of the most hilarious videos I've ever seen! You're right, they really do need extra geography lessons!
