Can't figure out which to buy
Medieval 2. or CoD4.
I've always been a big total war fan and I've bought every single one the day they came out except for barbarian invasion and the mtw 2 games
and the same goes for CoD4 I've bought every single CoD game the day they came out excluding CoD4
I ran out of money for those
But MTW2 has more variety and the assassination videos while CoD4 has a bigger multilayer database....
What ever i buy is going to be either from target or steam if i want it right away from steam but if i feel like waiting till tomorrow target
or maybe i should skip both games and go for something different like the expansions to Oblivion.... OHHH NOES WHAT'D I DO!!!!!

Re: Can't figure out which to buy
If I had to choose between the two, Medieval 2: Total War. You'll get a lot more play time out of it. CoD4 is virtually the same as CoD2, and you can breeze through the single player campaign in 4 to 6 hours. Multiplayer isn't really that great anyway.

.
I don't know CoD but I don't recommend MiNo (Medieval in Name Only). It's been a Total Disappointment for me.

Re: Can't figure out which to buy
I never played CoD so can't say much about that.
As for M2TW, you probably can get quite a bit of time out of it if you mod stuff or play using mods, or even PBM, but for all its worth, its an unfinished game and will stay that way.
Several somewhat gamebreaking bugs and ridiculous AI, even if you try to mod it to be a tiny bit better.
Sorry if this didn't help a lot, but someone with knowledge of CoD can certainly give you some background on that to help you.

Re: Can't figure out which to buy
I'd recommend skipping both and buying World in Conflict or something of that nature, but out of the two I would take Medieval. Combined with the patches and some mods it is quite bearable, and even just patched it isn't terribly bad.
-
Re: Can't figure out which to buy
The man above me speaks truth - screw both of them, get World in Conflict!
Never before has such a truly brilliant game been released. Epic takes on a whole new dimension.
The SP campaign is rather short, but it is truly magnificent. And MP will keep you playing for a long time after.

Re: Can't figure out which to buy
And you WANT another game????
It depends on what you want. If you want a modern shooter-up, I'd suggest that you get Ghost Recon. Modern weapons, cheaper price. Same experience, I don't know.

Re: Can't figure out which to buy
Well, if you're already bored of WiC, then you strike me as someone who plows through games quick. You're gonna be wanting some sort of game that can keep you occupied for a long time.
Anyone got any ideas?

Re: Can't figure out which to buy
Both have horrible MP. SP in CoD4 isn't worth the money(too short) and SP in MTW2 is just crap.
Save your money.. buy something else?

Re: Can't figure out which to buy

Re: Can't figure out which to buy
I would also like to recommend HOI2. Check out the Mead Hall for the Eureka! thread, a HOI2 AAR about Australia. It is a game which can constantly be replayed.
If its timeline doesn't appeal, or you want better graphics, try Europa Universali III, which has awesome 3-D graphics and spans from 1453 to 1820 (With expansion)
Try Victoria for 1820 - 1935.
Crusader Kings for 800 - ???
HOI for 1935 - 1953.
All interesting and will appeal if you like deep staregy games, with a deep pit in history.

No offense, and I'm a hardcore Paradox fan who's willing to give them a lot of space, but EUIII's "3D" graphics suck.
It's still a board game no matter how you look at it, just a bit shinier than its predecessors.

Re: Can't figure out which to buy
I tihk BB means the graphics are easier to the ye, thats for me anyways.
-
Re: Can't figure out which to buy
I don't think the graphics in Paradox games really matter. They don't look bad, and graphics aren't really a major factor for their genre.

Re: Can't figure out which to buy
I went and got cod4 because it came with a free headset and its the only game target had on its shelf that wasnt my little pony or the like

Good move. I just got COD 4 for Christmas and finished the first act on hardened (played a good amount of time).
Looks like I'm the only one here who will give a positive review. I was going to recommend you buy it, but looks like you already did.
FYI, I have it for the 360, so I'm not sure if it differs on the PC.

:inquisitive:
Granted, the learning curve is a bit steep, but I haven't really heard anyone speak that way about Paradox except for the usual "OMG Xbox L1v FPS R0x0r$" crowd. I've always seen them as making excellent, very moddable, high quality games with excellent community and patch support. They've always been my idea of what a gaming company should be. Perhaps you could explain?
EDIT: By the way Jkarinen, have you tried the Hitman series? I don't like the first one (just went on the Internet to get the storyline), but the Blood Money and Hitman 2: Silent Assassin are works of art. Freedom Fighters, which I think is by the same company, also is a great game. Rather short, but it's cheap now, so it might be worth it.

I'm willing to hate them for defaulting the HOI2 AI aggressiveness to 'weakling' and not letting you change that ingame; ruined my USA campaign (got to 1940, having triggered a coup in Russia and Germany, leaving the Comiten on 0 victory points and the Axis on 12 without declaring war on anybody - where's the challenge in that :wall:)
But they are great games, if you're willing to invest the time needed to get anywhere ~:)

Re: Can't figure out which to buy
It usually takes me a few hours to get 10 years in EUIII, is that just me?

Actually own them all... well not the hitman just borrowing that from a freind. But I'm going to look into HOI2 and EUIII i know i wanted to get them earlier this year but couldn't find a store that sold them. But your guys are right CoD4 isnt that long got it at 11:00 this morning and am already level 25 in multiplayer and have beaten campaign on regular already.. I was like WTF... maybe i could still get my money back....

Re: Can't figure out which to buy
Already played Bioshock? Not as great as I hoped it would be but still a great game. Freedom Fighters is indeed great as well, so is rogue Trooper, bit like Gears but better.
-
Re: Can't figure out which to buy
M2TW certainly has great replayability value, more than that of COD4's replayability value. The only thing that I liked about Bioshock was storyline, the rest of the gameplay features aren't that special IMHO. But I recommend you buy Call of Duty 4, if you're planning on playing it live (or online if you're purchasing it on PC), than that's even a better reason you should consider buying it over M2TW.

Re: Can't figure out which to buy
Yes my clan has moved from MOHAA and split into to factions the OG's(me and anyone there for more than 3 years) and the new guys(all the cod4 players)
But CoD4 was not the best of games i thought it would take longer to level up and there would be more variety in the weapons you could have in your custom class... Makes me sad to believe i wasted 45$

Re: Can't figure out which to buy
Team Fortress 2.
'Nuff said.

Re: Can't figure out which to buy
Team Fortress was the only game I LOVED in the Orange Box.
