Google Phone to Debut in Feb?
I have to admit, the iPhone doesn't do much for me. But an open-source phone? That isn't locked into a single vendor? Now you've piqued my interest.
Here's a little preview. What do the Orgahs think? Does anybody back here know much of anything about the world of cellphones? 'Cause all I know is that the standard contracts are highway robbery, and vendor lock-in is rampant in the U.S.A. Seems like an evil situation ripe for a fixer like Google.
Re: Google Phone to Debut in Feb?
I'm not a big fan of cell phones, but I have to say when I got my current cheapie, no contract one it was a little bit in the hope that Google's open effort would arrive before it ran out. This is the future, just as DRM free music is the future, and etc. I hope I'm able to support Google's effort with my next phone purchase, but it'll have to be pretty exceptional to get me in at 1.0. Time will tell.

Found a more comprehensive run-down in (where else?) Wikipedia.

Pretty sure the pikkie is just and engineering mock-up. And we know how engineers are. I'll wait until a design team and the UI wonks have had a couple of passes before I decide anything about appearance.

I'm determined to stick to my Nokia 3310, which I robbed from my brother two and a half years ago, which he in turn had been using for another three years, as long as it survives. I resisted to using cellphones until it became utterly necessary, when bro upgraded his and gave this one to me. :phonecall:

Re: Google Phone to Debut in Feb?
Interesting, but I would rather stick to the phone I currently have which I just use for calling, being called, sending and receiving messages. Have it for over a year now, that Samsung E900, and it still functions properly. That damn company I'm with doesn't, though: I want to get myself a cheaper subscription but nooooooo... for some reason I can't reach them corporate schmucks to disable my current one. What a waste of money. Can I finally talk to someone ALIVE, a REAL employee, instead of hearing a RECORDED VOICE and those annoying MENUS?
I'll be sure to keep my eye on this Google Phone, though. See how it turns out.
EDIT: actually, I just read that it might have GPS functionality which makes it a lot more interesting for me.
