Little question regarding education
Greetings EBers/the chosen ones, I have a question
I'd really like to know if there is a certain way of getting young family members to study in an academy. My situation is I am Macedon and I have all of mainland greece at my disposal. The son of Alkyoneus, Persues, is very soon to come of age and I want him to become a great general.
My client ruler in Sparte (aged 30) has randomly begun his education which I am surprised by and would like to know just how beneficial this could be if I could get persues to study there.
In short, how can I get FMs to study?, and where?
Cheers:jester:
Re: Little question regarding education
You can put a family member in any city with an academy and he will gain ancillaries. If you're talking about the agoge, there are dialogue messages that tell you what to do when a FM comes of age.
Re: Little question regarding education
As KH, I have a training program of 4 years in the Agoge and 2 years in the academy at Athens before receiving a posting. Governors go to their provinces of course and generals go to the front.
Re: Little question regarding education
im playing as mak too and i have an academy for my agoges to study at too so they get a double education. ill be building the great school as soon as i can too.

Do you have a Level 4 governement in Sparte (allied)? In this case you better do not place family members there and stick to the academy in Athens.

No I meant the client ruler (mercenary general?) is getting an education
Thanks for replies btw, so is it only certain cities that can provide training? and does there have to be another person to govern the city?

Re: Little question regarding education
One thing that I didn't realise for a while was that you could drag-and-drop the ancillary characters from one FM to another. I use this to concentrate the "military" helpers on front-line generals, with "administrative" helpers on sedentary governers. You can use this technique (if you didn't know already) to give Perseus spear carriers, veteran officers, a surgeon, geographers and any other assistant that you think might help him conquer the world!
Re: Little question regarding education
.
I apply some house rules to transferring ancilliaries, not very hard ones and not always though. Only the father/father in law may transfer his ancilliaries to his son/son in law or vice versa. The king may transfer his to everybody, while only positive ones may be presented to him. Personal ancilliaries such as evil mother in law may not be transferred etc.

Wouldn't it be good if you could do that in real life?
I don't have a problem with unrelated characters swapping ancillaries. If an older governer who's never going to see the front line again has a spear carrier or runner sitting around gathering dust, why not give them to a green FM on his way to the front? He's going to need all the help he can get against the nudie men of gaul! :skull: If you can get a clerk or grain merchant in exchange to help with the paperwork (there's always paperwork), that just makes good sense to me.
Re: Little question regarding education
Because ancilleries are aquired mostly by schools and academies, I regard them as books the characters have read or better lessons they have learned (and understood). Therefore they can not be passed in my games. The only expcetion is the spearcarrier/shieldbearer that represents an elaborate armour (should better add hitpoints not BG value) and can be passed from father to son.

With that post you made me think about including the source character's personality into the equation: Selfish/Disloyal types wouldn't give away their ancilliaries. :girlslap:

Ahh, that's a good point. I might take that into account from now on.
Another of the "personal" type ancillary I don't transfer are Mistresses. I think if you're randy enough to get one in the first place then you deserve the fertility bonuses they give. Plus, I don't like the idea of some 16 year old hanging our with a woman his great-grandfather picked up 60 years earlier...

Hmmm... Only the worst type of guys would give away their mistresses. Apt to bribe, disloyal over-enthusiastic punks... To buy the support of/ensnare the target FM. The target, in that case, needs be dull/uncharismatic.

AW: Little question regarding education
The worst ancillary is the overprotective nanny. It's a bit hard to imagine how a general goes to battle with his nanny, especially when he has finally reached his 60s. The evil mother-in-law, I never understood why a FM can have such, while she is at the same moment at home with her husband, another FM normally, probably giving birth to a child... one can only wonder how that can happen.

A person doesn't have to follow another around constantly to have a negative effect on his life/reputation. An evil mother in law in the capital spreading lies about a man, influencing his children against him while he is fighting hundreds of miles away could be a very nasty thing.

This one is in particular strange when held by a son-in-law of the king....
Re: Little question regarding education
Does evil mother in law die?
I thought my 70 years old general still had his evil mother in law... (I might be wrong) :sweatdrop:
Re: Little question regarding education
Ancillaries can't die. I think we can remove them in EB2 (depending on conditions, of course).
