Suggestion for Getai reforms

It seems to be the case that the ancient Macedonians were for a long time only half-accepted as a Hellenic people, and their full inclusion inte the "family" occurred only after Alexander's death, when the Macedonians and the Greeks had to coopterate to remain the dominated class in the Diadochi states. Historians even dispute whether the ancient Macedonians (before their Atticisation) spoke a Greek dialect or a Thraco-Illyrian language.

It is also known that the Getai as well as other Thracians were prone to adopt some Hellenic influences.

I don't know if this would be historically possible (i.e is it possible that history could unfold this way?), but if so, then I would suggest that the Getai, if the player conquers Hellenic land (like Makedonia, Epeiros or Hellas) have some reforms available which make it possible for them to be even more Hellenized, like getting some more Hellenic-inspired units and building temples instead of groves, yet of course keeping some distinct Getic influences (like for example worship of Zalmoxis and falxmen). Hellenization of another people, after the Macedonians.

Just like the Pahlava and the Hayasdanis have reforms that Persianize them due to their historical relations with the Persian people, the Getai could have reforms that Hellenize them. The Greeks didn't really hesitate to Hellenize others whenever possible.

Maybe EB 1.0 is the absolute final version that will be made for RTW, but if it is not, then please consider this suggestion. If this would not be historically possible, i.e such reform possibilities would not be historically accurate, then please tell me that.

well, the idea seems interesting, but i assume that if you are the getai you will be able to recruit hellenic units from the regional barracks- im not sure.....

Culture determines what you cities and buildings look like. Culture cannot change midgame, so that part would be impossible. UI building pictures also cannot be changed midgame. You can recruit Hellenic units in Greek locations, but your culture/appearance has to be always barbarian or always Greek.

What makes you think dacians didn't had temples but groves? As an example at theyr capital is located a group of sanctuaryes made of andezit(which can be cut only with titanium tools, a tehnology above the greek one). And you talk about hellenization but you forget that the greek colonies at the black sea were build on dacian land with theyr permision, and you forget that the dacians were a nation who kept a strong bound with theyr traditions and had a good knowledge of all things so very little influence from outside.

Not quite.

First of all, Getic temples were far from being groves. Far from them, trust me. They were a complex building, and mainly it was a circular sanctuary. Kogaionon, the Getic sacred mountain, had dozens of these temples.

Second, it was a case of trying to Hellenize the Getai, but it didn't succeed. They took some Hellenic technologies, such as advanced pottery, but it was far from Hellenisation. In fact, the Getai subdued the Hellenic poleis on the banks of the Pontus Euxeinos. (Black Sea)

So, sorry, can't be. Historically, it wouldn't be like that.

what edyz said is true but they can me teared apart from the Barbarian place they are placed.

they werent savages who ate raw meat,kill bears and wear their still soaked in blood fur as a coat,no they were civilased(sp), they had the technology of the time and in some places even better then helenic and roman one especially in archery and blade forging.The armoury wasnt bad either, chain mail alowed movement and a very good protection.

what can be done if it were for reforms should be in the late part of the game around the years of Domitian when the romans gave Dacians instructors for the army ,arhitects and so on.
there could be a change in the unit roster and skin of the troops,alongside the troops they have the dacians could recieve 2-3 roman looking and organized troops?and some new building perhaps?bigger walls?

Or some reforms could be on time of Burebista(is widely considered to be the greatest king of Dacia) he lived between 111-44 BC and ruled for 38 years betwen 82-44 BC .
In that time Burebista makes a new coin because the trade gets to astonishing levels.
The greatest priest and adviser of Burebista was Decineus(Deceneus) who held "almost royal powers" and taught the Dacians the belagines laws, ethics and sciences, including physics and astronomy.

Personally I fail to see where and how these things have anything to do with each other. For instance I doubt anyone would dispute the presence of the Celtic factions in the "barbarian" culture-group of the engine, and we all know perfectly well the Celts were teh hawt shitex when it came to metalworking, especially swords. Ditto for the Iberians (Romans were only too happy to make us of the craftsmen of both whenever they could).

But they didn't exactly build advanced aqueducts, vast metropolies festooned with educational institutes and venues for the performing arts making use of some pretty nifty "black box" understanding of acoustics, and so on either.

And on the scale of "civilisation" where the likes of the Romans, Hellenics and Persians form one end, the Getai are self-evidently by far more at the other side with the Celts.
