Unknown Error Entering Battle

Howdy all long time no posting he he. too much time playing wow :O

anyway, i started a new camp the other day, after having not played for a week or 2 and bam, first battle i try to enter crashes on the loading screen saying an unknown error has occured. ive tried different battles. the only other suggestion i can think of is trying custom battles and the like to see if its all battles or just battles in that campaign. any suggestions?

edit.... just loaded in a random camp, fought a random battle, same error

Did you use the unpacker to unpack the data files. If that is the case delete the 2 geography files in your data folder.

Did you patch to 1.2 in between?

not in between playing no, its been patched up to date for a while now.

im leaning towards a full reinstall which is going to suck majorly ><

You using any mods?

nope, only change to my game is small changes to descr_strat to make the game last longer, really wish i had kept patch 1.2 around somwhere ><

if one of my files has become broken, or something stupid like that would downloading a mod and giving it a try have any effect? for example LTC if i can find it and find the right version lol.

also is there any good link for the patch, i tried game spot and it died halfway through the download >< any links?

many links there. And getting a mod won't fix it. Sounds more like a problem with your install.

omfg it gets better and better. full reinstall, patched to 1.1 cos i still dont have a working version of 1.2 and it still crashes same error every time wooot!

Test memory (eg. GoldMemory or Memtest86). Someone I read that this game is extremely sensitive to corrupt memory (but if one stick of two is problematic, sometimes helps swaping them).

downloaded that goldmemory and ill test it after i finish downloading 1.2 just our of curiosity wot sort of memory error we talking bout? forgive my ignorace with pcs somethings i grasp somethigns go way over my head lolz.

It's something like corrupt file, but it happens on certain memory adress, not with specific file.
In some circumstances some memory cell returning something else than was stored in it (eg. if ones are around, it return one (but there are much more possible errors)).
If it happen to be part of bitmap, you have one pixel wrong and you don't notice. But if something saying what program should do is there, then it will do something different than it should (which extremely probubly will cause crash).

If you reinstall be sure you do it the right way:

1. uninstall the game.
2. remove sega folders.
3. clean your registry from any sega / M2TW key
4. defragment your hard drive
5. install 1.0
6. patch to 1.2 (don't use patch 1.1 if you want to upgrade to 1.2)

the gold memory checker thing came back with nothing wrong, and if ur serious that i should defrag my drive that is ridiculus i mean i want my game to work again but it will take ages lawl.

Sometimes the long way is the best way.

Defragging would definatley be advisable especially after uninstalling a huge game like m2tw.

Imo defrag should not affect whether it crashes (but someone says that it helps, and experience>>theory). But it can help ovarall performance of disk operations.

defragged gunna reinstall and repatch tomoz, also gunna leave memtest going over night on the .com forums the tech guy said its the only way to be sure ><

When you erased, did you delete the empty files that the game leaves behind?

clean registry - no, anyone tell me how, i always hate fiddling with my registry in case i break it :P

apocethary - nope, although i have a thread going in the .com tech support forums, although it isnt really going, they throw up ideas i shoot them down having already tried it :P

There are several programs that can do it for you. I used Registry Distiller 1.03.

1. Uninstall M2.
2. Run Registry Distiller. You will get a list of broken entries in the registry. Remove the keys that point to SEGA.
3. Remove all SEGA folders that were left from your hard disk.

If you don't trust yourself with the registry you probably have to do a complete reinstall of windows :sweatdrop:

4. Install the game

in case this helps when i try and run it with the -show_err command, it wont even load the game, it crashes instantly with a fatal error, BUT the error box title is CA_LIBS.

ps i posted in the apocethary, no response yet, at .com they keep throwing up suggestions but nothign has worked so far :/
