Uwe Boll: Why Is This Man Still Making Films?
What the heck is wrong with Germany? Why is Uwe Boll allowed to continue ruining perfectly good celluloid?
For those who don't know, here's the Wiki on Uwe. Apparently he gets money because investment in a German-produced film is protected by a tax shelter. But what a revolting way to get a tax write-off.
The law allows investors in German-owned films to write off 100% of their investment as a tax deduction; it also allows them to invest borrowed money and write off any fees associated with the loan. The investor is then only required to pay taxes on the profits made by the movie; if the movie loses money, the investor gets a tax writeoff.
In other words, if the film loses money, everybody's a winner from a tax perspective. So Uwe's whole career is like one long, unfunny scene from The Producers. So long as Springtime for Hitler bombs, the producers win.
Look at his track record: House of the Dead, Alone in the Dark, BloodRayne, and now some sort of weird Lotr knockoff, In the Name of the King.
One or two awful, money-losing films from a guy with no track record would be the end of the road for an American filmmaker. But this teutonic freak keeps making films. According to IMDB, the dude has no fewer than six films in post-production, and another four in pre-production. Somebody explain this to me. Why is this abomination allowed to continue?
Can any of our Deutsch Orgahs do something to end his reign of terror?

Re: Uwe Boll: Why Is This Man Still Making Films?
What bothers me more is the people willing to star in this stuff:
Jason Statham
Ron Perlman
Ray Liotta
John Rhys-Davies
Matthew Lillard
Claire Forlani
???

Re: Uwe Boll: Why Is This Man Still Making Films?
I think the US owes a bigger debt in the form of Bill Gates dress code first. :laugh4:

What the...! Ray Liotta even?!?!? Well, then again I think the only good role he ever played was in Goodfellas.

I like Bill's way to dress, there are already enough rich guys and wannabes running around in suits. ~;)
Concerning Uwe Boll, he's our late revenge for losing WW2. ~D
But thanks for the explanation, just yesterday I wondered how he can make a movie with 70 millions that only makes 3 millions on the first weekend. :dizzy2:
It's also not meant to be a LOTR copy but *ahem* a Dungeon Siege movie.
Apart from that he said he wants to go back to making low-budget movies now, he wants to go back to his roots or what he knows best, something like that.
You have to give him though, that he has a very unique way of handling critics. ~D

Hell, if I were one of those people near there I'd break a heavy wooden chair on his back when he was on his way to his room after the fight :slomo: If he wouldn't go down I'd have a gun handy to make him watch his moves. "Think you tough? Let's see you a dodge a bullet." :laugh4:

How's Postal turned out? It looked like something in such bad taste, suiting Boll's style perfectly, that it might actually be entertaining (when drunk).

If Lars von Trier is allowed to make films, then anyone can be.

Hm, I thought our beloved government put an end to that practice half a year ago, so no more "stupid german money" for hollywood (and more importantly, for Uwe Böll). Could be wrong, though.

Err, no. Hollywood gave us talkshows and daily soaps and we returned the favour with sending Big B to california. Seems like a fair deal.
Edit: Quote from Böll´s wiki page: In a review of Alone in the Dark, Rob Vaux states that the movie should make all other "bad" movie directors feel better in comparison: "It's okay," they'll tell themselves, "I didn't make Alone in the Dark.

Aww, go easy on that man, he was essentially raised by wolves in a household without rules of any kind. His films are intentionally uncomfortable and hard to watch, that's the point. Not at all the same as someone who just makes awful flicks in the name of a tax write-off.
Besides, I thought Dancer in the Dark was pretty good.

Lemur my hairy little primate where have you been? "In the name of the king" is the finished title for "Dungeon siege the movie." I've never seen more than one of his movies, House of the dead. Which can be forgiven it legion failings for the gratuitous shots of Ona Grauer in a tight tank top. But he does plan to butcher Soul Reaver (~:mecry:), and make Far Cry.

So, essentially, the bloke makes films based on games? I wonder when can we expect "Epic Mobs: WOW, THE MOVIE!"?

No shooting allowed. Pies only. :clown:
The guy I work with thinks Von Trier is a genius. He made me watch that movie Trier did about the kids who collected guns and gave them names and blah-blah-blah. I made it halfway through.
Trier is good if you've got a Euro-existentialist-humano-"I'm not easily bored" thing happening.

Next = you. He made some bad stuff, I love how he made a movie about how good his script is (epidemic) but it's the kind of arrogance I like even when it fails miserably. But when he's good he's good. And he can do other stuff, my favorite is probably Riket, a series about a haunted hospital great stuff, sometimes scary as hell and sometimes absolutily hilarious, horror/comedy-genius.

Re: Uwe Boll: Why Is This Man Still Making Films?
man...alone in the dark....I´ll never get those 90 minutes of my life back....horrible piece of crap...
I laughed out loud at the "out-of-the-blue" sex scene he threw in there ......I mean...two characters are just talking to each other and in the next scene..BAM! they´re bumping uglies.....loool....I guess Boll all of a sudden thought to himself "damn...I casted Tara Reid in this movie...we gotta get something out of this"...
Like Bill Hicks said .." you can pitch any movie idea you want..all the producers are gonna ask is 'Will there be titty?'"
:laugh4:

He did the same in Bloodrayne(why did I watch that movie ?? :shame:  )
Just out of the blue there was a sex scene and it didn't even matter plotwise.
Even porno film are better at this area then him.

Didn't look anything like the game and looked like a cheesy B-movie.
