Check the in game options and see if the console is mapped to a different key. It may be a different key, IIRC it is always the key just under ESC, even if that isn't `/~.
that doesnt work for me eitherQuote:

RomeShell.
To bring up a list of hotkeys press F1. (It might be you accidentally switched from the TW style to FPS style, ironically by pressing a hotkey combination ?)
Well that's strange.. Because I can't find romeshell in this list.
Also, I'm not sure if I did this TW FPS style thing but I'll check soon.
It was always in TW set up, so that was unfortunately not the problem. >_<
Console is another name for the same thing; but the thing says "Welcome to RomeShell" when you enter it...
Well.. I don't really have console on that list either... So I'm gonna take a wild guess and say maybe something got missing during the installation or I'm just facing a one of a kind glitch? :[
I believe I've seen this problem earlier, and that it was only helped by reinstalling RTW. You may want to search the EB forums to see if I remember it right, or just go at it immediately.
Alright, I tried re-installing the program several times and I tried running the program as administrator too, just to see if anything might happen but... No dice. :wall:
I've also searched through the forums and I have found that I'm not the only one with this problem but.. I've yet to encounter any solutions that have worked yet. :[ (I may be lazy, but I had a pretty epic battle with one of the eleutheroi tribes as sweboz, it CTD'd right after I won the siege, and I hate sieges so much.. It's why I'm trying my best to find a way around this in order to not relive that experience.)
Try to install a different keyboard layout, such as English or Norwegian. The place to do it is under Control Panel -> Regional and language options under XP, don't know where it's at in Vista. Make that new layout the default one (you may need to explain to your parents why weird characters are appearing after this move if you forget to return to the old one!) and run RTW, see if it makes a difference.
On my pc, I think I had to press the % button, cant really remember though. Never hurts to try
I'm also using vista and it seems there are 2 problems:
1: ~ doesn't work to open romeshell (lol I used to play all my total war games with cheats, but playing without them seems better)
2: and I can't take screenshots
1: With my desktop it works alright. Do you happen to have an AZERTY layout? (Typically French/Belgian.) In that case M to the A just gave your solution, apparently.
2: That's got nothing to do with Vista and everything with AA (Anti Aliasing) settings. RTW can't export TGA screenshots when AA is turned on, unless you run in windowed mode (and even then it has a habit of failing...). To run in windowed mode you have to edit your EB shortcut to include this parameter:The size of your 'RomeTW-Window' will then be determined by the resolution you use (editable in the Options menu).Code:-ne
1. no, my keyboard is using the QWERTY layout
2. oh I see, thanks for the tip
Well, I appreciate all the assistance people have been trying to offer, but I'm still sadly unable to use the little tilde key.
I was thinking however, would the fact that I have a keyboard from an old XP model influence the behavior of it on a Vista programed computer?
I really am at a loss here because obviously the keyboard isn't broken. `/~
It has nothing to do with windows vista security settings because I've run it as administrator.
I've hit every key on my keyboard to see if just perhaps it was in an odd location. (This includes even the help hotkeys and sleep mode buttons lol)
It's not a corrupted file because I've re-installed the program about 4 times..
What else is there that could be the source of the problem?
