Joining video files (and optionally splitting them)
.
I have tried :daisy:loads of programs for this task. All suck! None of them provides a simple joining service without you having to determine and provide lots of details from frame rate to whatever...and in the end you often get an n GB monster supposedly built up of five 50 MB pieces. :juggle2:
Except this Easy Video Joiner. It does the job pretty well and simply. But it's deadly bug infested. :wall: It halts as if fallen asleep with no obvious (or obnoxious :dizzy2:) reason. You have to relaunch the program to assure it doesn't after each joining, and it works 9 out of 10 times.
But now it's that 1 out of 10 times and I'm trying to compile some of my educational documentary collection for archiving on DVDs, and the damn piece of software refuses to do its job. :ballchain:
I need a free program to do my video joining as simply as EVJ does, but without its bugs.
:help:

Re: Joining video files (and optionally splitting them)
I have seen questions likewise and I'll be responding this one with my regular question again:
What are those clips to be joined anyways ? ~~~
:smoking:
Re: Joining video files (and optionally splitting them)
To give a provisional answer:
My dinky little Canon camera can shoot video. However, because of its flash memory, it can't shoot a whole lot at a time. So if I want to compile a video set to send to the family, I want to be able to edit together and join the little video files.
As I have learned the hard way, working with video is tricky, tricky, tricky. And the freeware tools aren't all they could be, probably because so many of the codecs are licensed and protected by shoals of legal sharks.

Ah, yes, educational documentaries. Well, that's a different thing, although the same tools should apply ...

You never fail me Lemur! :laugh4:

Re: Joining video files (and optionally splitting them)
Combimovie is a fine solution at joining mpg's.
And you can convert the other formats into mpg with Super Converter. Both programs are freeware. Give it a shot if you'd like to, keeping in mind that it will take time.
No, no I had to join the film noir movies I had splitted once. :smoking:

Thanks. But having to convert to mpg omits that choice. My dear buggy FVJ joins rm, quicktime, avi, mpg and wmv without ado when it's in the mood.

Will. ~;)
 No wmv. :rtwno:

Microsoft Movie Maker. No, seriously, it's what I use for my YouTube videos. It's easy to use, and has decent compression.

That thing is surprisingly good, as my previous experience has shown me.
I'd recommend giving it a go.

Thanks, will have a look. Last I looked, you'd need to enter bitrate, framerate etc. in that thinglet. If it does it automatically then it might be of use.
But then, it's WMV only. :wall:
Seems I'll have to stick to my buggy EVJ. ~:mecry: At least it works 9 out of 10 times.

Re: Joining video files (and optionally splitting them)
WMM works with AVI files as well, and everything is pretty much entered automatically.

Thanks, will look into it in detail. ~:)
